interested in the property and john phillips in charge of the companas comp anys milwaukee office returned this week from a visit of several days to the mine dr jones who owns a large amount of stock in the company and represents several milwaukee associates is very much pleased with the situation and thinks the outlook of the standard very promising the highest grade of gold cobalt ore yet disclosed within the present management is now being encountered on the standard drift no I 1 there is every reason to believe that the rich juneau shoot shown in the upper workings during the early operation of the property has been caught it etwas was from this shoot that gold cobalt ore which averaged was shipped to france and germany during a previous management the shoot proper is all of two feet but sometimes widens to the entire face of the drift on each side it is flanked with good milling ore which assays essays from 30 to 60 while the gold cobalt will probably average in inthe the neighborhood of picked samples have gone as high as to manager 0 C wright of the black butte in grant county and other wheeler properties returned from this mine last week and reports a very important strike he brought in specimens of the ore which show an abundance of free gold to the naked eye even where the free gold is not visible the ore easily pans and more to the ton one of the samples assayed an eight hundred depth capacity hoist is being erected on the property A party of milwaukee stockholders in the greenhorn gold mines and development company operating the lucy group in the greenhorn district was here a few days ago A meeting was held at the mine and officers elected for the ensuing year they were G A bergland of milwaukee president sam R stott of sumpter vice president charles scholl of milwaukee secretary M P keogh of milwaukee treasurer morris sullivan of sumpter assistant secretary ed sullivan of sumpter manager these and P F R morris of milwaukee directors the stockholders who visited the property were well pleased with the work being done the main crosscut is now in about beet feet and has cut three ledges which assay from 15 to 60 a ton work will be continued until the 0 K ledge is tapped when the company will decide what kind of plant to erect to treat the ores the working force will be luer increased eased during the summer months professor H H nicholson of denver who occupies the chair of mining in the university of nebraska accompanied by his son professor E E nicholson of the university of minnesota who is also a mining engineer arrived here a few days ago to take charge of the various killen warner stewart companas comp anys mining operations his son will assist him in the work while no detailed statement has been given out it is known that the company will prosecute prose cuie cuLe extensive work during the summer professor nicholson is a well known mining engineer he was here several months last summer in connection with this companas comp anys interests dr R N jackson of spokane manager of the fortune mining company operating the red lion humboldt and forty nine jimmy in the greenhorn district passed through the city this week en route to these properties shortly after the first of the year dr jackson became manager of the fortune company he is also la largely rge interested in the belcher and other greenhorn properties operated by the daines mining and milling company the immediate improvements by the fortune company will be a twenty to thirty ton mill on the red lion the plant will be a rapid drop quadruple discharge merrill with three stamps each capable of handling from seven to ten tons of quartz a day the machinery is already ordered and will be shipped immediately at the humboldt the shaft will be sunk to the hundred foot level and a crosscut cross cut carried to the forty nine jimmy with a view to developing ve the latter through this shaft A sawmill has been installed and is now cutting lumber for the buildings dr walter techow superintendent of the mountain view came down from the mine today he says that work is to be started on the new mill very soon part of the machinery is already in sumpter and the rest is expected to arrive in about three weeks the lumber will be gotten on the ground soon and construction work will be under way in a short time A report from the valley queen in the cable cove district states that a shaft has been started on the pentateuch just over tile apex of goddess mountain from the main tunnel on the same vein it is the intention to push for the consideration of which is to be expended in remodelling remo delling the present mill and the installation of additional machinery the is an old and well known property opened originally as a
