Show THE MINE MAKER take two mining claims two prospects in the same locality and of the same apparent value and let these prospects be developed by different parties the inexperienced perien ced observer will claim that both properties should develop alike and that no difference should exist as to results to be obtained under different managements but a difference does exist and it is safe to say that one of the claims will develop into a producing and paying mine while the other will prove unprofitable if not an absolute failure ai lure the reason for this assertion is that one man in charge of one of the prospects is a mine maker while the other man who presides over the destinies of the other prospect is not in his proper element and shoula be following the plow blow or clerking in a grocery store rather than to be wasting linit and money in the endeavor to make a paying mine out of the most valuable valuable prospect ever discovered the mine maker begins operations upon business principles he first has the ground in question examined by geologists and mining experts he gathers around him a staff of experienced mining men he maps out his work in advance and plans plang out the smallest detail of operation and development As a general thing he is putting his own money into the enterprise and is not dependent upon the whims and vagaries of the stock buying public for th means with which to further develop the property in which lie he is interested or at the worst he has associated with him a few friends who are ever ready to put their money up against his when a call is made ale for more of the sinews of war the th mine maker proceeds with method ne he is satisfied as to the value of his property and feels confident as to the ultimate outcome of development work and exploitation everything that he does is done intelligently Y systematically substantially and well in the end the prospect is classed as a producing mine as a dividend payer tile the other man with the other prospect begins operations in a haphazard manner ile he has no idea as to the trend or dip of the vein it is all guess work with him he runs a drift or tunnel there a shallow shaft here perchance he will spend thousands upon a piece of work that in time will prove valueless and which would have been condemned in the start by competent mining men he employs hay and farmers when he should have his work done by good miners half of the time he is shut down because he is out of funds and when money is raised the sum is inadequate for the demands the consequence being that the work is not kept up as it should be and loss is entailed on every hand in the way of machinery equipment anything will do with him and in the end he will have his bis mine equipped with a miscellaneous assortment sort ment of different makes and patterns that are entirely out of keeping with the work required half the time he will not know where he is at and the other half he will be waiting for funds at times he will work twice as many men as are required and the other half he will make an eff effort ort to do with two or three men that which a dozen men would have their hands full to attend to after awhile the men who are putting up the money become discouraged and refuse to be bled any longer the mine is closed down it is regarded as worthless and to all intents and purposes it is unless in the hands of a competent management in the meantime the mine maker has made his mine and it takes rank as a bonanza had the development of both properties been under his management both would have proved equally valuable As it was they stand as monuments to the difference between a mine maker and a mine wrecker |
