Show THE NEW DE LAMAR MILL special correspondence de lamar nov nev july 15 the new mill at de lamar for the treatment of the ores of the bamberger de lamar gold mines which is now making a very successful trial run is unique in many particulars and reflects great credit on frank G janny and his superintendent of construction george E cox it is as nearly automatic in its workings as present conditions will allow and many new features in ore treatment have been introduced the greater part of which have been invented by parties connected with the mill and its operation is being carefully watched by people interested in ore reduction the ore as it comes from the mine is delivered to the ore bin by three automatic tipples from there it descends to two no 6 gates crushers and passes thence through two no 4 gates gyrating crushers it is then carried by two elevators to a height of 60 feet and discharged into the pulp bin by the robbins bobbins self dumping belt conveyors the pulp bin is provided with a gable hopper bottom and the ore is drawn from there by ten plunger feeders the ore next passes through the chilian mills of which there are twelve and from here on is worked by the wet process six of the mills are the trent the other six being the invention of mr janney and manufactured bythe allis chalmer company the ore is then discharged into launders and passes by gravity to the separators ara tors the separators are filled with water into which the ore is discharged the beav heavier ier particles sinking to the bottom and by displacement causes an ascending cu current arent which carries the slimes upward causing a perfect separation the slimes pass into a second series of launders which discharge into a sump tank from here they are discharged by a centrifugal pump into a system of settling tanks where limes and other settling and purifying substances are introduced when the slimes have settled the solution I 1 is s drawn into a sump tank from which it is pumped back to the chilian mills the water makes a complete circuit in 24 hours and tons of water are necessary for this system the loss in evaporation etc being about 15 per cent the slimes are washed and treated with cyanide sluiced down to another series of tanks again washed and treated the solution being drawn off by a siphon to two large settling tanks for further fur ther purification it is then pumped to the precipitating tank where it is treated with zinc dust and passes to the presses from there it reaches the sump tank and returns to the system barren of its gold values the separators contain the heavier ore thoroughly washed which is treated with a weak cyanide solution in the ordinary man ner which passes directly to the gold solution tank and is treated with zinc dust the same as the other the tailings tall ings from the separators are carried away by six belt conveyers discharging on another belt conveyor or stacker feet long which carries it out to the tailings dump the rich ore from the hog pen claim carrying free gold is run over amalgamating plates before going to the separators and two mills are kept busy on this ore two centrifugal pumps each of a capacity of gallons per minute and two rotary pumps of a like capacity are necessary to keep the water in circulation to supply the water necessary a pump station is located at meadow valley wash a distance of fourteen miles and three sub stations are located along the route to operate the mill requires about horsepower the power plant being located at the pump station on the line of the proposed san pedro railroad the working of the mill has been highly successful so far and there is now no question as to the profitable handling of the immense bodies of ore opened up in the mines WARD STEVENSON |
