Show 2 i mckinnon gold mine of idaho 1 9 a wa waldemar lindgren the eminent government ern ment geologist once visited the mining region about silver city idaho and gave it a critical examination his findings were highly favorable and he thereby characterized it as being one of the most important mineralized sections of the united states his report was published by the director of the geological survey and it has been the appearance of being the vast treasure house that it is disregarding the frowns of natures sentinels however and caring little for the natural beauty of the mighty monarch the intrepid prospector with his pick and shovel his pan and horn has braved his way unlocked the chests of gold so securely laid away and opened them for the inspection of a wondering world gold was first found on the big hill in 1863 by the placer miners who discovered that the bed of jordan creek was rich in the precious metal A rush followed and soon all the gulches around the mountain were full of bf excited bl miners iners As the results obtained from the placer mining grew less the gold seekers began a search for the veins from which the gold had been washed this resulted in the discovery of some of the richest producing mines the world has ever known veins of ore were found carrying gold in such quantities that it was necessary to guard the property with armed men rock so rich that 70 in bullion was read with deep interest by mining men the geologist spoke in most commendable terms of 00 the vein construction ORONO of the war CRO eagle mountain the mines of which have yielded many millions of do dollars allars in gold another person who visited the same ground in recording his impressions BOA wrote the following interesting 5 D portrayal W a r eagle mountain old lindgren recalled that the total output of tha oro fino mine up to 1880 was the ida elmore produced the golden char chariot lot up to 1873 5 after that date the production was not recorded ACco according to the report of the director of the mint the minnesota produced but it is believed that the actual output was more than twice that amount the mint report also shows coming from the mahogany and there were many other pr properties oper ties active in the early days from which no accurate reports w were ere ever received from the per haps 94 tons of ore crushed yielded the Never sweat is a valuable group located in the carson mining district feet due south of the poorman mine the owyhee owahee mine also situated in the carson district on the east slope of war eagle was among the phenomenal producers of the early days from a shaft not to exceed feet dekeep it is estimated that worth of ore was extracted the red jacket was a heavy producer in the early it is estimated that more than was taken from this property the silver cord was still another noted producer as was also the whisky mine and numerous others on war eagle mountain the above figures even by prof lindgren are considered to be low while other sources give the production of the mountain at no less than the poorman mine according to statements made by its officers has yielded while the addie consolidated of more recent development develop menti has a record of production of upwards of the mines of the entire district nave probably produced over mckinnon gold mines the mckinnon gold mines company which was incorporated under the laws of the state of utah a little oven over a month ago with a capital of shares of the par value of 1 ea each ch has acquired a group of five lode mining claims situated right in the center of the mineral zone has made war eagle mountain famous this property is free from bonded or outstanding indebtedness debt edness geographically speaking the location could not be more propitious adjoining and surrounded as it is by the properties which have made the showings previously mentioned penetrating the mckinnon ground are no less than four strong ledges the green leaf pride of the west and protect ledges are each covered for a distance of feet by the greenleaf pride of the west protect and original claims while the apex claim occupies the unique position of carrying an extension of the jennings vein for a distance of 1500 feet tho the veins have all been opened on the surface and disclose pay values at the grass roots in the early days considerable ore was extracted from the pride of the west claim then known as ae the christina which brought mill returns of 65 to the ton but in those times 65 ore was not considered of sufficient value to pay consequently it was abandoned superintendent mckinnon is now doing some preliminary work and is kingore sac from this vein which averages between 30 and and 40 to the ton assays essays of ore taken from the ground have shown values up to 1500 to the ton considerable money was made out of the placers on the ground now owned by the i company in the early history of the ca camp m p I 1 the veins of war eagle mountain are generally small but rich the contour of the mountain is such that enormous depth can be obtained by the running of tunnels and that is the proposed method of development at the present time the first vein to be opened up with depth is the pride of the west which can be done with a small outlay of money A crosscut cross cut from the lower tunnel site will encounter it at a distance of about feet this vein contains good pay ore at a distance of 2000 feet from the entrance of the tunnel a back of feet can be obtained and will no doubt put the mine on a dividend paying basis the vein carrying pay values on the surface gives equal assurance that it retains them with depth an instance where this is not the case is yet to be found on war eagle mountain the other ledges will be opened and explored in the same manner the cost of milling the ores of the camp owing to the advantages of enormous electrical power does not exceeded 2 per ton the addle addie consolidated company has been able to mill its ores for less sufficient water for all purposes can be obtained conveniently mining here is no more expensive than in any other camp the company has placed one half its capital stock in its treasury a limited quantity of which is to be sold to carry out the proposed plan of development the acors and officers have no personal stock for sale but to avoid any possible chance of their stock coming into competition with the sale of the treasury stock their interests have been pooled and their stock has been placed in escrow in the bank of commerce salt lake city until april 1905 the directors of the company have authorized the sale of shares which is fully paid and assessable non at the price of 50 cents per share the company figures that the money derived from the sale of this stock will be more than sufficient to shape the mine so that it will carry itself thus the opportunity to secure an interest in the mine on a basis that is certain to bring large returns on the investment will be limited to a comparatively few persons the exploration department is in charge of mr C B mckinnon as general sup superintendent erin he is a gentleman of unquestioned integrity and ability ana nas has had many years practical experience in mining and is a prominent citizen of silver city the depository of the company is the bank of commerce salt lake
