Show J I 1 i the yampa of bingham from bingham while examining improvements in carr fork recently a bulletin reporter was privileged to inspect the workings of the yampa mine through the courtesy of its able superintendent perin W J craig in the yampa april were feet of openings considering si that in april 1891 when the tintic gintic mining development company took possession the yampa was a mere prospect and that from april to august of last year it was idle the amount of work that has been been done is most creditable movements of the tintic gintic company in bingham which first attracted special attention were its preparations for driving the main tunnel that was to give the yampa 14 4 J MA A t sms 4 7 VI view ot campal Yam paL molin main tunnel deep drainage and an outlet in carr fork between two days as it seemed the power house and other buildings were erected a compressor was installed and the work was begun the main tunnel was driven 2448 feet obvious reasons in the foot wall of the big vein it may as well be stated here that excepting the main tunnel every foot of the developments is in ore the company is modestly reticent as to ore values but one gets an impression in the various openings that it is well up in copper compared with other bingham ores and carries a good excess of iron over silica while it will be an odd product of this district if the gold and silver contents do not with economic handling pay transportation and private smelt ing expenses in a word with its present showing the yampa seems to be entitled to consideration among the best of bingham mines As stated in these columns last week the incline opening the great bedded vein on its dip to a depth of nearly 1700 feet will be completed by the of may when the mine will be ready to feed a ton smelter indefinitely drawing first from the immense tonnage available in yampa tunnel which develops the ore body near the apex for many hundreds of feet when it is considered that the 1700 foot incline is in ore all the way that the vein at its narrowest is five feet wide and at its widest not less than 35 feet a rough estimate that has been made that the mine practically has upwards of tons of ore in sight does not seem unreasonable in the several dumps are tons of ore that came from upper part of incline down april 1st ast to 1000 feet tons from incline raise up feet tons at mouth of yampa tunnel and 1000 tons at west incline put down last year under contract the bulletin does not credit the statement that a matting plant for the yampa to be located at the mine has been decided upon the property is not a side hill reduction works proposition but even if a matting plant would be sufficient for present purposes the fact that survey for a bucket tramway to connect with the rio grande western depot has just been made Is a pointer that the company will either build a smelter in the valley at once or for the present sell its product to those already there in this connection the yampa will probably in a few days begin delivering a considerable tonnage to the bingham smelter hauling by team to depot the yampa group is composed of eight claims consisting of the yampa proper mercers nos 1 2 and 3 great western abe may and sap the latter is a fraction recently located while the great western abe and may were last year acquired by purchase at present 38 men are on the payroll and work is being pushed at various points |
