in the great copper camp of butte montana on monday of next week september 1st ast it is too early as yet to predict just how much good will result from this meeting of the congress or what the attendance will be zIt it should have a larger attendance than that which characterized the meet at boise idaho f last year and the interest in its proceedings should be as great As for the results sought for by these continued sessions of the congress they may be of greater import a few years from now than at the present time as the Conz congress ress favors the enactment of such laws jaws by the federal government as shall have beneficial effects upon the mining industry of the country at large a condition that it may take years to bring about 1 1 at each session of the congress the sub W 0 HON E EL PRESIDENT international MINING CONGRESS act has been discussed and resolutions adopt cac d 1 asking for the establishment of a d depart ent of mines and mining to be presided ver dver by a secretary who shall have a seat in ahe he presidents cabinet this question will 1 d doubtless come up for discussion again at the s butte meeting and it is believed that the 0 times aimes are ripe for the establishment of such k a department which action on the part of the e government would no doubt have a stimulating effect upon the mining t industry another topic of interest that has occupied the attention of the mining congress has WI been een that which pertains to extra lateral tights rights the persistent discussion of this sub act having ar aroused so much interest in the ax question that the indications are that i before J ore the egon close 9 of another year the mea measure of junior senator will pass both houses of the national congress and become a law thus relegating to the past one of the most obnoxious and cus customs to m s and laws that ever cursed the mining industry of this or any other country one of the most interesting features of the butte congress however will be the read of papers by mining men engineers metallurgists and fillmen mill men and the discussion of topics pertaining to the mining industry while during the session an opportunity will be given the delegates to visit the great mines and reduction works of imperial butte which opportunity in itself will more than remunerate the visitor for all expense incurred and time taken in attending this session of the congress according to the pro gramme of entertainment side trips of interest will be taken during the session of the congress and after its adjournment many of its visitors will take delightful trips into the yellowstone park while many will visit salt lake city before returning home one of the most interesting features of the session will be the mineral exhibit which it is learned will be one of finest ever made in the west nearly all of the learing leading mining camps of montana will contribute to this collection of ores and metals while other states will a also also make a fine showing of what they can do in the way of mineral production the mineral exhibit will be held in the handsome I 1 bui building ldina in the columbian gardens where I 1 senator W A dark
