Show THE HONERINE DRAIN perhaps the most important event recorded thus far this month in utah mining circles was the starting on OD the ath dinst of the honerine drain tunnel nothing has happened at least in the history of stockton that promises to benefit this camp as much as this project when it is carried to completion the overabundance over abundance of water as everyone knows who has kept tra track k of conditions at stockton has been a great hindrance to min linb e operators opera tora in this district this has not only retarding progress but it has caused them a tremendous outlay of money in the effort to free their properties from this unwelcome element the honerine Hc nerine company has expended many thousands of dollars in pumping machinery but even then it has been with great difficulty that it has been enabled to keep the operations ot the mine contafi containing ning i its massive bodies of ore steadily in progress fortun fortunately abely for some of the older mines the the honerine pumps kept them drained so that they could operate without little difficulty fi the hardship fell upon the honerine company but happily when the latter was at the point of closing down a solution of the vexing water problem was solved when an arrangement was arrived at between the various mining companies in the camp whereby byall all that will be benefited becent ed by the drain tunnel are to contribute their pro rata in money towards its construction the total length of the proposed tunnel will be close to feet including the one already driven by the honerine company to make a connection with this it will be necessary to do new work to the amount of about feet the mouth of the new tunnel will be near the presents present station of the oregon short line railway at terminus the work of I 1 construction will be pushed with all the rapidity possible and in order to facilitate progress shaf shafts t will be sunk on the line of the tunnel site at intervals these shafts will not only serve as a connection for air but as soon as each one reaches the depth of the tunnel level forces of men will be put to work driving each way therefore it is expected that if the ground to be broken does not get too unfavorable that the work will be finished within a period of eight months or less the dost cost of the enterprise will reach a large sum estimated at between and but when once completed the expense of ridding the mines of Stack ton oi of water waier will be at an end and the camp will enter upon a new era of prosperity tind and unprecedented production it will be the making of stockton and it will be the matter of a short time no doubt before the honerine and other companies will take steps towards the erection of plants for the reduction of their ores right here in in camp the tunnel it is claimed will drain the mines to a depth of feet below the present water level of the camp the tunnel will be of such a size that it can be and will be utilized in the economical lea 1 handling of ores after they are mined and will serve as an avenue for ore trains direct to the reduction works or to the oregon shoreline short line cars atthe at the tunnel mouth near terminus while the tunnel is being built the mines par particularly niculai alyin interested teres ted in it will do little towards the extraction of shipping ores but the time will be energetically applied in further explorations |
