Show OF RATES hope long deferred mabeth the heart sick but the of long cherished desires and wishes brings with it sunshine and contentment the army of mine owners and mine workers in tintic gintic district have experienced perien ced both of these feelings and sensations for months many of the camps leading mines have not been operated to their highest point of production owing to the fact that excessive freight rates and smelter charges have eaten away all profits in the handling of low grade ores it was at this period that the heart was sick now however this cloud of disappointment and dissatisfaction has its silv silver er lining as the announcement no has been made that the railroads entering the district districts i have reduced their schedule charges on the transportation of low grade ores while the smelters shelters sm elters have also agreed to a reduction and it is confidently dently believed that these concessions will result in the mining and marketing of millions of dollars worth of ores which were hitherto practically valueless the reduction in freight rates it is understood goes into force on all ores of a value of 15 a ton or less the tariff from the mines of the camp to the valley smelters shelters sm elters being trimmed down 40 per percent cent or to per ton while on iron ores and fluxes the rate has been reduced to per ton the new rates rate 9 going into effect immediately the american smelting smelling Sm elting refining company it is understood will meet the reduction made by the railroads as far as s the treatment of second the schedule of charges class ore pertains having been reduced to the extent of from 1 reductions of 4 per ton while to 3 per ton have been made in the case of the most the bi bingham engham con smelter des desirable ores which has entered the ore markets of the west quite extensively of late and which from the start has been very liberal in its dealings with ore producers has made still fur further ther concessions in the reduction of by at least 1 to on smelting smelling sm elting charges be second cond class ores the benefits to be derived by tintic gintic mine these reductions in owners on account of smelting smelling sm elting and railroad charges have been variously estimated and the statement has been made that these concessions will result in the output outputting tino 11 of second clasa ores to the value of five millions by the producers of this prolific camp this amount we should say will figure up in the column of profits which means much for the mining industry of this richly mineralized section it is well known that in the mines of tintic gintic district a vast tonnage of low grade ores has been blocked out awaiting more favorable conditions for tb their air extraction and shipment it being estimated that the grand central alone has tons on its dump and in the mine the uncle sam swansea and star con could easily turn out tons each while the south swansea eagle blue bell and bullion beek beck could touch tons each while the centennial eureka godiva mammoth may day yan kee lower mammoth ajax gemini key stone carisa and other properties could each produce with but very little trouble a tonnage ranging 1 from to tons tons the mining review is more than pleased that these reductions have been made and concessions allowed and hopes that the day is not far distant when every mining camp in in utah and adjoining states will share in the same benefits |
