Show unionville UNI ONVILLE MINING NEWS from our regular correspondent unionville Uni onville nevada may 6 work is progressing on the pipeline between indian creek and spring valley mr fitting the manager who has been in new york on business is expected to return any day H ar of los angeles has paid his mining property in cottonwood a visit he expressed himself as being greatly pleased with the outlook for the mine one of his partners J C harvey remains at the property as manager J taylor of bloody canyon continues to work his antimony mine occasionally making a shipment of high grade ore T H bradley returned a short time ago from a visit to fishers canyon where he has some very valuable copper properties the old peru mine which is being worked by mr kelley is being furnished with an air compressor power is provided by a large stream of water which issues from an old tunnel this stream of water i is s sufficient with the tre tremendous fall it has to ru run n a mill were it to be situated at the base of the mountain about the most progressive work that is being done in this vicinity is on the star property the force of men is constantly increasing and improvements improve menti are being made one of the latest of which is a tramway by which a shaft of feet is to be emptied of water A track is laid on which two cars are made to run one being of much greater capacity than the other the larger car in running down the incline causes a bucket of about gallons capacity to be lifted from the shaft the contrivance is very interesting to watch in its operation and it does its work perfectly the nevada mining smelting smelling Sm elting co is continuing work on its properties south of unionville Uni onville they have ore on each of the five dumps and the badger on which work is now being pushed with energy has three distinct veins each of which are being fol lowed this mine has about tons of ore on the dump at present it is understood that quite a lot of prospecting is being done in limerick canyon the mines in this canyon were once valuable producers and a small city was built there but like so many other of nevadas mining towns all that is left is old ruins A strike has quite recently been made in property owned by cook and bartel in american canyon this canyon has been a rich producer in placer gold for many years of late years however it has been prospected almost entirely by Chi Damen and it must be said that many of them have made vast fortunes in a few years the annual output shipped through express companies being high in the thousands about five or six years ago cook and bartel invested in the iron hill a quartz ledge it seems that the whereabouts of this ledge has been known to the for some time but reaping a sufficient harvest from the placers they made no effort to de celop it and carefully guarded it from white prospectors but after the present owners succeeded in acquiring the property they have done quite a lot of developing work and have run on to the main ledge which has a width of about twenty five feet and washes from 75 cents to 2 per lbs ibs it contains quite a good deal of hard quartz which is entirely wasted in the washing process |
