Show GOOD PROPERTY BAD management the canyons gulches and mountainsides of this region abound galore in meritorious and promising properties which are idle today because of bad bad manage ment go into the leading mining camps and innumerable monuments will be found which silently but eloquently testify to woeful waste in mine operation inexperience and ign ignorance or in management and almost criminal disregard to the rules and regulations which should govern in the development of a mine and in the installation and operation of reduction works it is right that all should look as far as possible on i the bright side of the mining industry but it is folly and inexcusable to say that all is good when so many failures are annually recorded because of bad management ill advised development and more than I 1 foolish mine and mill equipment for such I 1 conditions do present themselves and to the detriment injury and abandonment of mines and prospects which are as good as promising as any which by intelligent exploitation I 1 systematic and energetic development are today rated as among the great dividend payers of the rock mountain region in every camp almost mills will be found which have hardly turned a wheel in some instances these were erected before steps were taken to find for a certainty if the process to be emi employed loyed was adapted to the ores of the mine and today they stand as wrecks many of them with their interiors gutted and what is left of once fine machinery only fit for the old iron heap then to in in mine operation there are many properties of undoubted merit and value which have had thousands spent in their development all of which was of a character worse than worthless and for the reason that the work was misdirected mis directed shafts have been sunk where tunnels should have been run and in many cases away instead of towards the vein the result being that the property has been abandoned as valueless while those interested those who have put up the misspent misspend mis spent money are now re iterating the old saying that mining is a gamble fortunately however mining methods have improved during the last few years and fewer failures are posted up to the credit or discredit mis credit of the mining industry haphazard operation has very largely given way to intelligent and systematic mining no one these days would consider a mining invest ment without first having the property in question eare carefully fully examined and investigated by the mining expert by the geologist and it is often the case that examinations are made and reports submitted by two or three experts eminent in their professions if these agree a deal is generally consummated and operations are then commenced on a scale commensurate with the undertaking wh when en ore is blocked out in quantity and quality to justify a mill is then projected but not before exhaustive and thorough tests are made to determine the treatment best adapted for the product of the mine in question of course this takes time but in the end another regular producer and dividend payer generally follows such a course we have just such propositions in the we west st by the hundreds and it is often that new blood new talent and intelligence injected into old and abandoned properties abandoned for reasons and causes above alluded to have caused such to be resurrected rejuvenated and added to the wealth producers of our mining ining in regions we do not pretend to say that the mismanagement of a property has been attended by dishonesty the reverse is the general rule but experience is proving that all good busness business men are not always good miners and that it is a poor rule to put a bank clerk at the head of a mining enterprise simply be cause he is a good fellow or to allow a tenderfoot to direct mining oper operations actions merel merely y because becaas he has considerable money in the enterprise with the affairs of a company in the hands of thoroughly competent experienced experience d mining men success is almost sure to crown the efforts of those who believing in the legitimacy of mining are anxious and willing to engage in this profitable and fascinating pursuit |
