Show THE POLLARD COAL MINE herald salmon city idaho the herald visited the pollard coal mines this week and found astonishing improvements there since the last visit the main drift is now in feet and a raise has been constructed to the surface for air the coal is better and cleaner of waste as the drift t progresses and today there is a 21 foot vein of which at least 14 feet is good clear merchantable coal rooms are being opened and the facility of extraction increased till today they are able to produce and deliver 20 tons daily within a month the capacity of the mine can be increased to tons daily A steel track has supplanted the old wooden one and a car holding 1500 pounds is used to wheel the product to the bins outside fred W smith of junction has taken a quarter interest in the mine he is a practical man at such work and is is overseeing the development they have repaired the road to tiie the mine by cutting out a few hills bills and making the grade to the mine more uniform and are able to supply all orders on short notice timothy dore is the local agent and an d orders left with him will receive prompt attention many people are putting in oal coal c stoves and those who have used the new fuel are well pleased with the results F M pollard deserves a great deal of credit for his enterprise displayed in opening this mine in so incredibly short time last december the first practical work was done he has meanwhile built and burned three kilns kalns of brick attended to his ranch business harvested his crops and opened a coal mine all upon means so limited as to have scared the wits out of a tenderfoot his mine is worth today |
