Show THE STATE FAIR MINERAL FUNERAL EXHIBIT one of the finest displays of utah ores ever seen in this city was the mineral e exhibit made during the recent session of the state fair the collection was very complete in detail and the exhibit was not confined to a few samples from the mines and districts represented but was made in quantity the result of th chevery every pains taken effort made by C C crismon of crismon brothers assayers of this city who had the collection in charge and who in the endeavor to make the exhibit a representative one made a personal visit to many of the mining camps of the state the display was made in the main portion of the exposition hall and covered considerable fior floor space every sample and specimen being plainly labeled showing from whence the specimen came while two handsome cabinets filled with beautiful samples of ores and minerals added much to the effectiveness of the whole fine photographs of mining scenes in different portions of the state helping 11 greatly inthe in the way of embellishment the exhibit being one of the most attractive features of the fair mr crismon remained with the exhibit durin during t fair week and answered innumerable questions relative to the different classes and characters of ores the locality from which they came uc etc while henry rives bives ellis the well known metallurgist and mining expert awarded the prizes on the few exhibits entered for competition it being much regretted that every display was not of this character the prizes awarded were as follows first prize for best collection of minerals in cabinet george cummings first prize for best collection of silver lead ores in cabinet the utah mine second prize for silver lead ores the yosemite mine of bingham first prize for best exhibit of copper ores the clifton copper belt mining company of this city cit y whose property is located in the clif clifton ton mining district in the deep creek country OTHER FINE EXHIBITS other fine exhibits were made from other mines and districts as follows sulphur from sulphurdale Sulphur dale in millard county iron ore from the dragon iron mine in juab county A splendid display of copper gold and silver ores from the leading camps in the la sal mountains grand county gold silver copper and lead from dugway district in tooele thoele county fire clay from juab county gold ores from the con mercur new mercur overland and sacramento mines in camp floyd district hematite iron ore from iron county copper silver lead and gold ores from the old jordon old telegraph ben butler niagara colorado highland boy and other bingham mines gold silver lead and copper ores from the south swansea swansea bullion beck uncle sam gemini keystone centennial eureka mammoth and ajax mines of tintic gintic district silver lead ores from the ontario silver king quincy anchor valeo and california mines of park city gold quartz and honeycombed honey combed quartz from stateline Stat eline district in iron county fine specimens of gold ore and quartz from park valley mines in box elder county silver lead ores from the cyclone mine of stockton A nice collection of gold copper silver and lead ores from the deep creek country including gold ore from rom the midas mine in clifton district copper ore from the grand gulch mine in mohave county arizona oil shale from bald mountain two miles from Ep ephriam briam MILL PRODUCTS A very nice exhibit was also made ot of mill products one of which consisted of concentrates from the treatment re of anchor mill tailings for their zinc contents by the magnetic separator put in recently by mayne leonard the recovery consisting of zinc and iron the two products being separate and both of high commercial value the california also of park city had an exhibition of lead and silver concentrates and zinc while the daly west of the same camp had a nice display of concentrates and tailings the and last chance mills of bingham made a very creditable exhibit of concentrates and tailings an interesting exhibit was made by barrett wallace of this city oil re finers by the new barrett process these gentlemen showing crude and refined oil oil sandstone shale together with white wax putty made from the same besides other byproducts resulting from the refining of the oil in the crude the yosemite of bingham had on exhibition hibi tion some very fine specimens of petrified wood the exhibition clear through was a fine one and from froman an educational point of view has certainly been of great help and advantage to the mining industry of the state and of the west and it certainly was a credit to the gentleman who had it in charge and who spent so much time in its collection |
