Show BASIN CITY MINES special correspond fence basin city grand county utah sept 5 upon looking over a copy of the review of recent date I 1 find that you have given many of the different mining camps of the state a space in your most interesting paper but I 1 did not find that our camp was represented while the camp of basin city la sal mountains grand county and state of utah is comparatively a new camp it is one that is bound to draw attention and capital to the state the first locations were made five years jears ago aco by S E mcgraw and 0 D loot sh enizer the following year other prospectors came into the district and the camp has continued to grow not a mining boorn boom but a good healthy growth in a way that has meant a permanent camp and one that will become a steady producer within the radius of a mile from where I 1 am writing may be counted twenty diff different erent properties that with a little capital invested can be made to pay heavy dividends prospectors can go just about so far when capital has to come in and push the work along and that is all that our camp requires at the present time our veins are large and will run from 5 to in gold and from 8 to 30 per cent in copper one or two will carry high r in silver that is the little dot which is being worked upon a lease the wolf boys have opened a five foot body of copper and gold ore in the skylark lode they are working six men hepburn and price have taken out some good copper and gold ore from their claim the M T P F fowler has opened a body of copper and gold bearing quartz in the florence lode the pilot mountain M M company had its foot body of gold bearing quartz sampled and tested by a mill run in denver the returns showing in gold a trace in copper a trace in silver and 1 per ton in quicksilver it is too late to place a mill on the ground this season but it will be put in another season the camp is not what can be classed as a high grade camp and for that reason it takes it longer to come to the front to the east of us two miles is beaver basin where the international mining company is operating and has made some fine discoveries co veries in gold and copper and is pushing in on the east slope of pilot mountain while on the south slope of pilot mountain and at the head of the dry fork of mill creek a colorado springs company is operating five miles south of mill creek and seven miles from basin city is located gold basin another mining district of great interests as a low grade camp and yet a camp not much heard of in the mining world H R J dark clark owns five claims in this camp and upon one of them he has sunk a shaft seventy five feet and then than crosscut cross cut from this opening up a seventy five foot vein of ore that will average 10 per ton in order to gain depth he went down the mountainside feet and ran iran in feet on a five foot vein that will average per ton he then crosscut cross cut from this point forty seven feet and by going six feet farther he expects to open the seventy two foot body of ore which places the prospect beyond a prospect stage and into a mine mr dark clark expects to put on a large force of men for the winter and will put in a large cyanide plant in the spring wilson prator are pushing work upon their ground they are in seventy five feet in a large dyke it is hard to say how much they have of it it will all pan and gives a good prospect it is a cyanide proposition mackelroy MacK elray is also developing a good property farther up on the mountain avery A very small portion of the ground has been prospected gold basin is located just over the line in san juan county but it brings us all together in in our mining interests for what is a benefit to one camp is a help to us all G H THOMSON |
