Show THE STOCK EXCHANGE the mining reporter of denver usually so fair in its utterances utterances committed a great mistake in its issue of april ath when it made an uncalled for attack on the mining exchanges of the country at large going so far as to state that there was but one exchange in existence do doing dg an active and healthy business the exception being the colorado springs exchange all the rest being I 1 dead or moribund just why the reporter should make such an erroneous statement and give utterance to such a baseless slander passes the comprehension of the mining review the statement is an absolute falsehood as far as the salt lake exchange is concerned whatever may be the condition of other exchanges the review is unprepared to say but we wish to m make ake the statement that the salt lake board is very much alive and judging from what we can learn of other exchanges is doing nearly as much business in point of value of sales and transfers as is the colorado springs exchange As a matter of fact we are willing to make comparison between the salt lake and the colorado springs boards any day it may be true that more shares are transferred on the market of the latter place than is the case in this city but we desire to call attention to the fact that nearly every share of stock disposed of in colorado spring seldom possesses a selling value of over one to ten cents a share with the salt lake market it is different abshere as here it is seldom that any shares sell for less than ten cents while the average price is nearer a dollar with many transfers being recorded at 5 10 15 20 30 40 50 and up to 80 a share and the daily transactions run up into many thousands of shares the selling value being nearly as great as the usual total recorded at colo colorado rado aprin sprin springs gs with the transfers f ers running up into the millions of shares it is simply folly for any paper to make a statement such as that emanating from the denver mining reporter simply because such statement is not founded on fact there have been some features connected with the salt lake exchange in the past which have not met with the entire approval of the mining review now however more care is taken in the listing of stocks every sale is legitimate curbing has been done away with and we might well add that the exchange has done much in stimulating 0 the 1 mining industry of the state and of this western country as it has created a demand for stocks and has provided a market for the same because the denver exchange is a fizzle as claimed by tho the reporter this is no reason why the reporter should malign other exchanges no good can come of such a course and especially so when it attacks a board that is well established that is run on legitimate lines and which is the second exchange r on the american continent in the extent of its transactions transaction 8 and the cash value of its transfers it is a fact that the members of the salt lake exchange do not accord the mining alining review the business patronage that members of the Color Colorado adv springs exchange extends to the mining papers of that city still we wish to emphasize the fact that our exchange is conducted on business principles that it does an enormous business and that it is of great r benefit and help to the mining industry 0 this intermountain country |
