Show THE DEATH OF HON R C CHAMBERS see the announcement made in this city on thursday of last week that hon B R C chambers had died suddenly in san francisco during the day was a shock to his wide circle ot of friends and acquaintances and more than one heart was plunged into mourn mourning int over the loss of a friend a good citizen and a public benefactor it hardly seems more than a day since mr chambers was seen on the streets of zion apparently parent ly in excellent health and good for many years to come the tidings of his sudden and unexpected death therefore was all the more crushing as it seems impossible to shake off the feeling that once again will his friends be able to take him by the hand to gaze into his genial face and to enjoy the pleasure of his presence Inde indeed edone one can AA X RK hardly believe that he has by this time solved the problem of another world although it will be many long years before his memory will be forgotten for his personality person aliby his real self will long dwell in the hearts of those who loved him as a friend and as a brother mr chambers had witnessed the passing of sixty nine summers at the time of his death and yet he appe appeared a red to be in the prime of his manhood at an early age acre he engaged in mining in california extending his operations to nevada and later on to utah then in its infancy in mining affairs and he may well be termed the father of park city the home of the ontario mine which under mr chambers guidance has since taken bankas rank as one of the greatest dividend payers in the known world the success with the ontario led to investment in other mining enterprises not only in park city but in other portions of the state and of the west while he also embarked in numerous industrial pursuits success crowning his efforts to such an extent that for years he has been accounted a wealthy man his successes his ability and his integrity giving him a prominence such as has been attained but by few in this western country where for many years he has bee been i a power fo for r good and a pillar of strength to our young and growing commonwealth genial in his intercourse with his fellow man just and upright and a friend to the laborer as well as to those blessed with this worlds goods it is no wonder that he was beloved and respected by all who knew him his was a noble character for he was anely good ile he was liberal with his means as the public well knows and yet many were his acts of kindness and generosity which were hidden from even his bis most intimate friends it would be almost an impossibility to tell of all the good that he has done for this country of what the mining industry of the state owes to him and of the way his friends far and wide clung to him these things thinas will become more and more apparent with the passage of time we realize how hovy ever what his loss means to utah and to the mining interests of the state we deplore j his loss on general principles personally we gri grieve eve because of the high estimation with which we held this noble man in his death the review feels that it has met with a per 1 bonal loss a 6 personal friend and this feel ing is shared in b by y hundreds of etli others ers in this i city 1 |
