| Show MINING TRUTH SPOKANE SHOWERS ON MINING REVIEW when a person or a publication pub I 1 celebrates cel a birthday and receives friendly congratulations and commendation for his or its acts and attitude in a particular and exacting field of endeavor it is natural to experience a feeling of pride how the mining review feels over the nice things which mining truth of the alst 1st instant graciously fired at us as follows twenty nine years ago the first issue of the salt mining review appeared today with its name shortened to the mining review it is the oldest mining periodical in the west of the several mining papers in the field the first number of mining truth appeared in 1916 The mining review is the only other survivor the salt lake paper is also our only direct competitor among the several regional mining journals of the united states the duluth and phoenix papers serving distant constituencies very well are practically eliminated from the northwest by geographical reasons the mining review however is a friendly competitor both for news and circulation in southern idaho and to some extent in montana we have found the mining review a clean and honest competitor in the regions where our ferrii territories ories overlap it is conservative in its presentation of the news constructive in its editorial policy and conscientious in its observance of journalistic ethics it is also economically independent which is the only permanent assurance of editorial freedom the mining industry needs such spokesmen as the mining review and it will be well for the west if that publication li now in its thirtieth year has thirty more years of service mining truth can never hope to be as old as the mining review but it will soon be half as old and in 34 years it will be three quarters as old let us hope that the future of both publications will be more valuable and more prosperous than their past |
