Show I 1 THE BINGHAM SMELTER AND COPPER BELT RAILROAD J the issue of the bingham bulletin of february Y 15 contained an excellent description and illustrated article on the mines of the bingham r copper company and the new copper belt rall railroad road which through the courtesy of editor J B graham we ar are e able to reproduce as follows the bulletin this week presents a photographic 0 view of improvements at the main lower entrance to the bingham copper gold companas comp anys mines also a view on the new copper belt railroad which yesterday afternoon began delivery of bingham Bing hara ores from the bins at the upper terminal connected by a foot gravity tramway with the lower tunnel direct to the smelter at bingham bino ham junction 4 se g 4 M A ak oa w 0 0 A Z U ap R 7 THE BINGHAN COPPER GOLD CO MINES A couple of weeks ago 7 reference was made in these theae columns to ft a v visit isit to the bingham banaham r C G mines and a few notes referring to their general character and promising 0 outlook given aven speaking more particularly notes made at that time lame show that the ore occurs in an east and west bedded vein in a limestone formation having an average lip dip to the north of 45 dey degrees 1 rees the lime ilme belt is about feet wide vide from north to south and bounded on either side by quartzite there are four distinct ore chimneys in ill the bingham mine separated by fissures perpendicular to the strike of the bedded vein these fissures lis 1 frequently carry ores in pay paying inar quantities for consider considerable able distances north i and south of the bedded vein but more frequently to tho the north the present lt opar ins in tho the bingham mine junoel arold old co commercial minere jal consist of the tbt upper level which has its opening near the old jordan and galena mines the foot level and the lower tunnel level feet on dip of vein below the upper tunnel level while there are fifteen intermediate or sub le levels vels which have been driven preparatory to working the mine on the caving system the sulphide ores begin 11 just below the upper tunnel level and are continuous to the lower tunnel level there is little change in the character of the ore from the upper level to the tunnel level or as depth is gained excepting that the vein is more regular while the ores carry a larger excess of iron and a decided increase in in gold values I 1 the bingham C G mines seem in shape for more than meeting expectations that dur in ing their development were exar expressed essed or implied by the management Z and now nov that the new smelter in in conne connection action has exceeded ani it can safely be predicted results to follow are to compare favorably with tho the work of the highland boy the old reliable camp seems a at t lench len length ch nearing ncr t a realization of the measure of prominence and prosperity to which its great gre at veins of mineral entitle it is the copp copper er belt railroad construction work on which was berrun begun about the or of december last was yesterday practically completed to its upper terminal at the bingham copper gold companas comp anys mines so that a steel car carrying fifty tons was in the afternoon loaded direct from the mine ore bins bills all rail connection including in this sense a foot gravity tramway is thus established via the copper belt and rio grande western railroads between the bingham mines and the new smelter the copper belt railroad is only about three and one half miles in length yet is a conspicuous monument to mining camp enterprise 16 and hustle it is substantially constructed ted on a 6 to 7 per cent arade lecessi tating the use of shea engines the bed of the old rio grande trai tramway away widened for a standard gauge track was utilized as far as bear fork the business of the road will be ore hauling and up freighting exclusively and its ultimate capacity will exceed 1000 tons of ore per day it is understood that when wanted it will be used for transporting ores from the united states companas comp anys mines to be delivered to the elevated bins at the mouth of bear gulch via tunnel and bucket tramway 4 4 W 5 00 N 4 m C n af TI k wl V X 41 4 THE BINGHAM COPPER BELT RAILROAD at a recent meeting of the stockholders of zhe the ridge valley mining company of eureka the capitalization of the company was ch changed anfred from shares of a par value of 50 cents each to shares of a par value of 1 each leach at the same time a new anew directory was installed as follows W B R wallace S hauerbach J C mcchrystal J H mcchrystal delos deloa lombard fl J wallace and theo meyer |
