Show operations IN THE LA special to the review miners basin utah la sal mountains october 13 1900 so faras far as can be calculated to a certainty there are seven goven different mining enterprises now dow booked for steady operations operation this winter all of thern them tunnel projects to crosscut cross cut large veins exposed on the surface in the contact formation Th the cHioli high ore property which is beinar worked under bond and le leabo ase by thompson davis is being put in shape for direct production at the same t ame me a stamp mill has been erected to work the ores an and d in connection with which are arc to be used the tables for concentration of the auriferous ores associated fifth wi th the free milling r ores now being produced this mill is not expected to do much this fall but will be operated up to the time of winter conditions necessitating necessitating n its close down which will probably be up to about thanksgiving and possibly as late as christmas the high hiah L ore mine is being C worked constantly and ore is being t packed down the mountain to the mill to complete a contract of tons which amount it is expected will run them this fall which will I 1 give them a fairly good start in the spring before the trails are open to the mines the oro ore body at the mine is an immense one and without assorting will average about 18 per ton in gold saved on the I 1 plates lates and give a high percentage of values by concentration in all about 40 per ton two diff different crent openings are made on the high r ore ground and if necessary the tonnage 11 could be increased very readily to supply a mill of tons capacity there Therea are four other properties in the district that could furnish an equal supply coffree of free milling ores were there facilities here for its reduction the principal tunnel projects are the international ter tunnel on the beaver basin side of 2 mineral mountain owned and operated by a provo syndicate of which judge t sam kin king an 01 is the principal projector A full force of miners are at work tunneling to crosscut cross cut the copper queen vein which upon the surface shows a large I 1 body of sulphide ores run running it high in gold and copper values on account of a miscalculation of direction much dead work has been done in this tunnel but now they are on the right line and will cut the vein sometime this winter at a great depth under pilot mountain the colorado tunnel company coming this way from the mill creek side of mineral mountain is owned and operated by a Cri cripple pyle creek syndicate they are running cr diagonally across the north belt for formation matio n toward the corsair vein and will ultimately come out on the miners basin side of the hill after having cut the corsair contact at a depth of about 1000 feet vertically work is now being vigorously pushed arid and will be continued all winter A tunnel is being run from the base of tornado mountain to cut the tornado vein in the south belt and work is also tobe to be continued upon atall it all winter this enterprise is owned exclusively by td 1 I fowler who is now preparing himself for the lonesome task this winter ile he has acquired a depth now of feet and has feet yet to run before crossing inc the contact the ore is a 11 1 1 quartz considerably oxidized and is full of free gold averaging about to the ton A company intends the erection of a stamp mill next season to work the ores of this property A tunnel has recent recently lv been started on the iowa group of properties to crosscut cross cut two distinct veins in the south s belt contact the first vein on the Burli burlington naton to be cut at a depth of feet and the iowa vein at a depth of feet also alo at a vertical depth of nearly 1 1000 feet the low iowa a group is situated on gold hill adjoining 11 the town of basin and is 0 owned by iowa J smith and gid R they own ei eight bt claims laying parallel on the north slope of the mountain all covering the two contacts the ore is a sulphide in the upper contact and a fluorine on the lower both carrying rich values iti i gold copper and silver the tornado vein lies in the porphyry formation between the two contacts on the north and south sides of which is a lime formation the josephine and lucile mining 11 companies recently organized 1 in denver will also do considerable winter development work on both these properties which are situated upon copper mountain in the north belt preparations are now being made by the erection of buildings and the getting in in of their winter supplies the property will be in charge t of G R who is ohe of the directors as well as superintendent of the two com companas comp anys possessions mr frank earle and H S shaw of denver the promoters of these enterprises are expected in here soon to make arrangements and perfect plans for the winter work these enterprises including that of the grand view on horse mountain will practically open up the contacts on the west end of the north belt the grand view group owned by S A mclean of castleton a new town at the foot of the mountain in castle valley is to be extensively ten worked this winter both for development and production its principal product is copper with a small jer percenta percentage centa e of I 1 rold gold ore will be ba taken out this winter and shipped in the spring to the salt lake market in spite of the failure to find the source of the gold float found on wilson mesa meia a number of deep shafts are bed being sunk to the solid formation through the sedimentary miller bros of moab have a shaft shaf t down 75 feet the payne shaft has rea reached ched a dept of 80 feet ar ard d the oneil company is down 50 feet all in talcose schist which carries small values in gold but has no resemblance in value or form to the float quartz all indications p point I 1 to gold hill as the source of this rich ore yet nothing of like character has been disclosed from anywhere in the country that compares with this rock there are no signs e or traces of glacial action to be found in the count country ry and if it is a native of this region it certainly must havo have come from great depth during the period of this upheaval the man who discovers the vein will certainly be fortunate the lay of the ground cr round the different formations of granite schist breccia syenite and have all the relations to the cripple creek district so pronounced by men from the famous camp and who believe that some day rich mines will be found on this expansive mesa it is reported that parties have recently came in here from denver with the view of taking hold of the old huntsman copper property and systematically develop it william brown of richardson has the property in charge and is willing to venture his share of the expense of putting this property in shape for production on a paying basis the ore is there and had it not been fora for a hoodoo element of mining men getting L hold bold of it last season it would now be one of the pay mines of this country there is considerable interest beier being taken in the gilsonite elat clat erate and uranium deposits of this country gilsonite and deals have been recently made through the letter leiter syndicate and the interest in our uranium deposits is increasing yince since the successful T operation of the uranium uranium plant at paradox valley has been inaugurated the french company there is offering big inducements to the owners of uranium properties on this side of the range and the salt wash district is in line aih a u uranium proposition I 1 now the recent fall of snow has in no wa way y interfered with mining operations throughout the la sal country and while a severe winter is predicted all are well prepared for it and when spring opens I 1 predict that enough will have been shown by the work of tunneling operations to place the mining interests of the la on a substantial basis and that some larre large investments will be made here next year |
