Show DO YOU KNOW DO YOU STOP TO THINK the mountain dell parley s canyon reservoir is now empty and the work of patching up the leaks in the fluting of the upstream side of the dam is under way do you know that as a further means of making the dam frost and the city now is advertising for bids for backfilling back filling tle th e downstream down stream side of the dam under the fluting this last move to be a new one inspired by a realization that there was something lacking in in engineering foresight when the original dam was planned by the cites engineering department or was it simply a desire to fool the taxpayers into a belief that a first class job was being done at comparatively modest cost and do you know mr taxpayer that the city now is advertising for bids to repair the side mayors pet the sunny reservoir on the east bench at what is expected to be a cost of something like when the original work cost less than that did you ever go up there and see that reservoir if so 0 did you not wonder why it was ever bu built ailt on top of that sand and gravel reef and wonder what binky dinky washbasin wash basin affair really amounted to the anyhow and dont you think th the hundreds of people with fine homes and lawns whose residences were in the path of the break in that dam when it went out before will be derelict in their duties to themselves if they fail to enjoin the city from attempting to rebuild the thing and make it hold water again acain no matter at what cost these matters are mentioned at this time because we are always admonished when election campaigns come on that citizens who do not pay attention to what is doing and who do not get out and declare themselves on questions of public policy have no just cause for complaint if they fail to get fair treatment at the hands of their public servants the next proposition coming up with respect to salt lakes water problems is that of raising a few paltry millions to spend on a proposed new water storage reservoir in big cottonwood canyon the taxpayers are going goin to be asked before long to authorize the issuing of bonds for the purpose stated maybe this new water storage scheme is justified and would be a good thing for salt lake but in view of what has happened and what is happening why should the expenditure of two or three millions of dollars dollar be entrusted to those who have made such bungles of the jobs they have tackled the fact that the sunnyside Sunny side reservoir failed to function when expected and the fact th that at no notwithstanding ding the past dry season there has been ample water for all needs without much help from the mountain dell works with its tremendous capacity when fixed there seems to be no reason why the taxpayers of salt lake should saddle on to themselves additional burdens for several years to come this view view is justified for an additional reason it is only a few days ago a 0 that the cites water commissioner stated that following the emptying of the mountain dell reservoir as much additional water as needed could be supplied from the big cottonwood storage lakes and reservoirs without crimping As taxpayers and rational people we should head off any attempt to issue new water bonds particularly as the chief object seems to be simply to get money to spend think it over |
