Show NONE SO BLIND AS THEY WHO WONT SEE someone evidently has been brushing the cobwebs in the wrong direction in the mind of J J cusick presumably a miner of the old school of idaho springs colorado 1 because in the local paper of recent date he takes occasion to blow off steam by addressing the intellectuals of american universities and schools of mines to whom he charges most all of the ills that he alleges have befallen metal mining for the past thirty years he talks like a bol and consequently draws most of his conclusions from wrong premises his screed is not deserving of mention and it would not be mentioned here only that he undertakes der takes to create the impression that men graduated as mining engineers from the schools of mines and universities have not been taught anything worth while to the business of mining and the treatment of ores largely because their preceptors precept ors knew nothing themselves this man knows of course if he knows anything that during the thirty years he complains of as being fruitless of results in the economical treatment of ores that wonderful things have been accomplished by the class of men he berates the intellectuals of the schools of mines and universities versi ties they are the men who have made it possible for the owners of mines little and big ones alike to reap a profit from ores which the old time miner threw over the dump as worthless they have been trained in the science of mining and ore treatment to a degree that old timers like cusick are unable to comprehend and they are making new marks for merit every day they are the men who are rehabilitating habilitating the metal mining industry of colorado and every other metal mining region that has suffered a setback set back all over the world the millions spent in their education and training are coming back now to bless and repay those who could not prosper to the fullest degree because there were few among them who had sufficient education and training 11 to turn the trick to solve the problems that confronted them it is unbecoming to say the least for those who have failed to measure up to the standards to which they lay false claim to berate those who are making signal successes in their calling whether as teachers degree graduates or students |
