Show BOISE BASIN MINING activities REVIEWED BY RAVENAL MACBETH 1 I do not believe that anyone will contradict the statement that the future growth and progress of boise depends the successful development of the mineral deposits of upon apon boise basin and other mining sections tributary to the city said secretary ravenal macbeth of the idaho mining association cia tion in an interview with the boise capital news a few days ago without successful mining op operations orations erat ions in its vicinity boise will remain in the walla walla cla class ss forever but with the reverse I 1 consider it has a chance to break into the class of cities in the int e in country made by mining such butte salt lake apoka spokane n and denver as I 1 have predicted the day ain in this connection for years would come when the mineral deposits of cd boise basin would receive the reco recognition 6 to which they were justly entitled and from my investigation of mining activities in the basin recently made I 1 am convinced that day is fast approaching as every property is active with but one exception at idaia I 1 found that S M ballard is now m charge and that under his management 6 shipments of high grade gold silver concentrates are being made to the smelter and from my knowledge of mr ballards ability this mine will make good if any chance exists mr ballard is well known to mining men through his bulletin geology and gold resources of boise basin due to conflict among the parties in control and which conflict apparently is never ending and which has worked a hardship on its stockholders F C mitchell the superintendent nt is working only a few men at the golden age jr but nevertheless is making occasional shipments of crude ore and concentrates to the smelter dredge of consolidated mines doing well for years litigation has held up the dredging of the valuable placer ground above centerville Cent erville on grimes creek but last year the consolidated mines syndicate adjusted all legal difficulties and obtained possession of the property this company owns over four miles on grimes creek and the dredge now operating handled cubic yards of ground last month with satisfactory results the dredge which is excellently equipped is designed to dig 30 feet below the water line visitors to the basin should not fail to make a trip to it F E johnesse is the president and S K atkinson is the manager of the consolidated operations at the dredge are IT in c charge of geo J carr formerly superintendent 0 of f the yuba consolidated gold field and who had twelve of that companas comp anys dredges under his supervision at the property of the independent mines syndicate stanley G smith manager boise a crosscut at the bottom of the eighty foot shaft disclosed four feet of complex ore averaging per ton in gold silver lead and zinc A ton of this ore is to the utah smelters shelters sm elters to ascertain what can be obtained for it in addition to this complex ore the independent has a large body of oxidized gold ore carry carrying inz commercial milling values the ingenious method bv which mr smith converted the engine of a ford truck into a hoisting engine at a small cost with a lift of feet per minute is worthy of examination by parties engaged in developing prospects mineral mining companas Comp anys new mill completed the power plant and the flotation mill of the mineral mining company were completed about ten days ago and the mill ore bins were filled unfortunately the power pipe leaked due to faulty welding when water was turned into it and operations have been suspended pending the re welding of the pipe A large tonnage of high grade milling ore is reported blocked out at this property the flotation plant is a duplicate of the bunker hill mill at kellogg i on a smaller scale that treats the ore from the star mine a similar ore to that of the independent and was constructed ted from blue prints given mr gallupe by stanley A easton of the bunker hill and its operation should be successful this is the first mill that has been installed to treat the complex ores of the basin and should its operation be a success which I 1 have no doubt will be the case the installation of similar mills on other deposits of complex ores such as owned by C C Fair childes and associates should follow high grade gold ore is reported to have been struck on the mammoth skidmore group at summit flat and work is being done on their rock creek claims claim s by skidmore and mcdonald boise placer and other activities the boise placer company at idaho city E F F blain manager boise conducts the largest hydraulic placer opera eions in the state it is well worth a trip to the basin to view view the two five inch nozzles and the seven inch nozzle in operation engaged in tearing down a gravel bank feet high an excellent cleanup is promised for this year on the washington and sub rosa groups the property of the monetary metals F E johnesse president and james farrell superintendent development work has disclosed sufficient ore at depth to warrant the installation of a mill so the company advises and the construction of the mill ore bins is now under way with F V tinker in charge of the work wark in the sub rosa at a depth of 1100 feet on the dip of the vein two or three feet of commercial millin milling gore ore is reported disclosed in the washington at a depth of feet on the dip of the vein in addition to seven feet of commercial milling ore ten inches of picture rock showing native and ruby silver with heavy streaks of argentite were opened up A piece of the picture rock has been given to the states mineral exhibit by mr johnesse the missouri mining company homer E howard manager has a good showing of complex ore so I 1 was in informed and work below the iron capping where this ore was encountered is being continued |
