Show TWO DRILLING OUTFITS NEAR PRICE I 1 DEVELOP sensational GAS FLOW no little excitement lias has been caused during Z the past ten tell days as a result of gas being encountered in two different wells being sunk in the country a few miles southeast of price utah the first strike was made in the utah oil refining company companas Comp anys s well on the Farn farnham hani dome at a stated depth of approximately feet reports reaching salt lake early in the week stated that the flow was estimated at or more cubic feet a day and that indications made it appear that the oil producing sands had been nearly reached and that there was likelihood d of the well blowing itself in without f urther further drilling this well is presumed to have reached or nearly reached the moenkopi Moen kopi fornia formation tion while waiting for the gas pressure to subside so that drilling may be resumed tests of the gas are being made to determine the degree of saturation as the flow progresses anything it likely to happen in this test well at any time and everybody is on the tiptoe tip toe of expectancy egildson bros also tap gas flow three miles southeast of price another flow of gas was struck inthe in the well being put down by egildson bros the diamond drill contractors by one of their diamond drilling crews at a depth of feet G G esterblad Wa and henry brown the drillers drillars dr illers at work last sunday night were both seriously burned when the gas began pouring into the shack covering the drilling rig one of them heard a noise in the well which at first he mistook to be trouble in the pump line ile he called to his partner who was outside and when he entered the door with a light an explosion occurred that demolished the shack and burned both men they made their escape and a few 1 minutes later a second explosion occurred which completed the wred wreckage kage and aroused people at price three miles away J A egildson in salt lake was immediately notified of what had taken place and he left on the first train out for price he got back monday night and tuesday shipped another diamond drillen drilling outfit to the well so the work could be resumed without delay 1 I found the boys had been quite seriously burned baij mr egildson on his return abut but they will come through all right they were taken to the hospital at price shortly after the accident and are there receiving the best of care we had been drilling for just twenty two days when the accident occurred and had reached a depth 0 of feet there was very little gas coming from the hole when I 1 left so we are quite certain that it was nothing more than a pocket the report that the flow of gas had bad been measured and that it amounted to 1700 pounds to the square inch is all bunk there was no way in the world to determine what the flow or pressure might have been the pressure was strong enough and the flame hot enough however to melt much of the equipment and ruin the entire plant another diamond ri rig has been shipped and we will be drilling again in a few days 2 |
