Show ELIAS CONWAY ASHTON on october the fourteenth the many friends of E conway ashton prominent salt lake attorney were shocked to learn or the sudden death of the young barrister in a mine accident at the utah apex property at bingham utah mr ashton member of the firm of bagley and ashton attorneys for the company was making an examination of the mine incident to the litigation with the utah consolidated soli dated mining company over apex rights of the mine in company with 0 P peterson and albert burch geologists V S rood superintendent of the apex company and john cooney foreman of the mine mr ashton was proceeding along one of the tunnels when the tram on which they were riding collided with three ore cars causing the deceased to be thrown violently from the tram breaking his neck he was rushed to the home of mr rood in bingham and physicians were summoned from salt lake but death had occurred before their arrival mr ashton was born in salt lake city february 16 1880 received his early education in the city schools of the utah metropolis and took the law course at the university of chicago graduating from that institution with the degree of LL B cum laude in 1907 he commenced his legal work in salt lake in partnership with stephen L richards and had been a member of a number of firms before his connection with mr bagley he was married in 1909 to miss rosabell hall and his wife and four children survive him mr ashton served as a member of the state legislature in 1909 and since 1912 had been a member of the examining board for admission to the utah bar for five years he was a lecturer in the law department of the university of utah his death is a distinct loss to the legal fraternity of the state and the community has lost a most substantial and upright citizen |
