Show A TRIP THROUGH CENTRAL NEVADA robert B todd of reno nevada aromi nent in mining circles who recently made a trip through the mining camps of the central portion of that state has summarized his impressions in a letter to the mining review in which he says there is but little activity at luning A few leasers leaders are working and making shipment of high grade copper ore the silverside is developing in a satisfactory manner and shipments are being made this property was recently taken over by herbert G humphrey of the general mines company A E lowe representing san francisco principals was there making an examination of a gold and silver property near luning mines of bell district the mines of the dell bell district have not been affected by the strike and much development work is being done the olympia continues its satisfactory P production ro the simon silver lead company is pushing work with very encouraging showing as development proceeds in the selection of burch hershey white as consulting ara a directing engineers by the president P simon efficient management is assured f r much favorable comment is heard on action other nearby properties are making go gc showings s and undoubtedly a number of t pr properties oper ties will make paying mines tl gold bearing part of the district is develop ing beyond expectations mines at lodi homer wilson at lodi is developing the old property there and is operating a concentration cent ration plant with very satisfactory results mrs Archi balds mines are developing favorably and they have recently encountered two feet of silver lead ore in the bottom of the shaft which they say is better than per ton mining at bruner at bruner the mine is improving as development work is accomplished the mill is about completed the pipe line installed and very soon it will be placed with the producers of nevada A truck line is now being run from luning to bruner and supplies are taken in that way star of the west at gold park the star of the west mining company has a force of men at work cleaning out tunnels and old works two new ore bodies have been exposed one in the face of the middle tunnel on the star of the west claim at least six feet wide and assaying from to 1557 per ton the other on the arctic claim is about eight feet wide assaying 2008 per ton arrangements range ments have been made with the forest reserve supervisor for supplying the company with mining timber and fuel activity at austin there is considerable activity at austin the austin manhattan consolidated mining company under the direction of william A marshall has recently made a discovery of high grade ore in cleaning out the old workings kilbourns kilbourne Kil bourns properties are being actively developed under the supervision of J L madden with very satisfactory results it is rumored that negotiations are now pending for the sale of the property with one of the big mining concerns of nevada the excitement continues over the new gold strike about ten miles east of austin and the hotels and garages are crowded to capacity A tunnel is now being run across the mineralized zones and much depends upon this work as to the extent of the new find some surface ore is said to have assayed as high as a ton excitement at eureka at eureka I 1 found every one much excited over the work of eugene davis and what he has accomplished there while mr davis has been interested in the camp for years and actively developing the property properly for several years he moved from the east in july and expects to make nevada his permanent home with headquarters at eureka mr davis controls several of the principal mines at eureka among them the eureka croesus and has as fine a mining headquarters as there is in the state the company purchased the largest hotel there for executive headquarters and has a complete force of mining engineers surveyors assayers accountants stenographers and so forth all under one roof and under the personal supervision of mr davis considerable other property has been purchased by mr davis such as livery stable bank building and quarters for their men railroad purchased mr davis has just purchased the railroad running from eureka to palisades paying about for the same the road will be greatly improved not only to facilitate getting in the necessary additional equipment but to handle the large bodies of high grade ore now blocked out and ready for shipment to the smelter while large shipments have already been made from the property as soon as the large hoist tramway and ore bins are installed the company expects to ship tons daily it has ample ore reserves that will average better than per ton to keep up shipments indefinitely will build mill in the meantime the company will install its own reduction plant of 1000 tons daily capacity to treat the lower grade ores the well known engineer and meta logist george 0 bradley of san francisco has been engaged by mr davis to work out the treatment problem and the construction of a reduction plant which is to be installed in the early spring this mill will be sufficiently large so that the company can treat custom ores in case it seems best at the time located about three miles from eureka boarding houses and bunk idunk houses for the accommodation for a large force of men are about completed while my time was limited I 1 had an opportunity port unity to make a brief examination of the mine and with mr davis and his superintendent in mr huebner Hu edner I 1 explored considerable of the underground workings and was very much surprised at the large bodies of ore in sight and ready for extraction I 1 predict that eureka will be one of the most important mining centers odthe state and that within a year it will be one of the largest producers 0 |
