Show I 1 new railroad to open central nevada districts BY JAMES F OBRIEN by an act which was passed during the osing days of the session the nevada leg lature granted to walter E trent of I 1 eno and eastern financiers who are asso abed with him a franchise to construct a railroad through the central part of the otate ite which will tap a section of great min ril iral and agricultural resources which has will furnish an outlet for the base ores of the southern section connecting transcontinental trans continental lines in addition to its local significance this railroad will attract special attention from the fact that it will become a link in a transcontinental line connecting the southern pacific and the western pacific on the ticul arly in mind the benefits to the mine and smelter of the louisiana consolidated mining company of which they are directors yet the new road will open up for colonization several hundred thousand acres of splendid agricultural land in railroad and hot creek valleys the soil here is excellent and it has been proven that water k 51 railroad photo by will C higgins partial view of tonopah To nevada southern terminal of proposed now theato been without transportation faaili les es A railroad and smelter the new road which will be approximately miles in length will have either Y or eureka tor for its northern terminus ad will run via the famous old camp of abo to tonopah on the tonopah and gold beld id railroad A smelter having a daily capacity of tons is to bo be erected at abo bo and this railroad will not only proe ide economical transportation for eureka camilton la railton milton and other camps in the northern art or of the state with hundreds of elds ds of tons of ore already developed but north with tile the tonopah and goldfield the tonopah and tidewater the santa fe and the owens valley railroads on the south operating over the now new road the time and distance between salt lake city and los angeles will be approximately the same as over the dark clark road while a saving of about twelve hours is made between the two points mentioned over that made by the southern pacific via san sail francisco Pran cisco it will also save about eighteen hours in the shipment of southern california fruit products to the east as against that of the southern pacific via sacramento while mr trent and associates associate have shave pat par for pump irrigation can be developed at comparatively shall shallow ow dept depths lis the famous old camp of tybo the camp of tybo where is located the mine which was recently taken over by the louisiana consolidated mining company is fifty five miles northeast of tonopah To the tybo mine was a famous producer forty years ago the production from 1872 to 1880 having a gross value in excess of silver lead and gold were the metals produced and tile the low prices of recent years for the two first mentioned is largely responsible for the fact that the mine has not been operated for a long time the pres ent high figures for lead and silver make a wonderful difference and many properties which a few years ago could only be operated with little or no profit will now pay handsomely the tybo mine has been developed to the foot level but the greater part of the production to date has come from above the the it is estimated that there are 50 tons of ore developed between the third and fourth levels having a gorsos value at present quotations of about the former operators also left a large amount of ore above the third level and this is figured to be now worth the fourth level has entered the zone of the primary sulphides sulp hides and the ore there is 60 per cent richer than that above the louisiana company has a large force of plant will be held in reserve to be used when there is a failure of power over the regular transmission line will treat custom ores the ores of the tybo mine carry a sufficient excess of lead to smelt two tons of other ores for each ton of the tybo ore for this and other good reasons the louisiana company will treat custom ores and thus provide a market for the ores of eureka hamilton and other camps which cannot be profitably treated with present transportation por tation and reduction facilities there are upwards of tons of ore developed in the mines of E eureka reka which can be treated at a profit when mixed with the lead ores of the tybo mine after cheap transportation has been provided the old camp of hamilton with its rec smelter and besides will provide a lar part of the money required for the railroad aroa the following are the eastern capi capitalist capitala tall who are interested with mr trent as d rectors of the louisiana consolidated mi ing company F hausman L A dess and julius
