Show mining mini 0 ng at oatman arizona BY C F SPILMAN an interesting feature of the week in is the development of a lens of extremely rich gold ore in the united eastern mine it is not generally known that oatman produces quite a little high grade ore but every mine in the district gets more or less ore showing free gold and often small deposits enriched portions of the vein produce ore carrying sensational values As a rule the mining companies companes do not make these discoveries public it is the occurrence of the high grade that brings the mill ore up to the high average which prevails in the district the discovery in the united eastern was made some time ago and a piece of the high grade said to be worth 1000 per ton was thrown into the crusher as a part of the ceremonies when the new mill was put in commission coni misson during the week a was started on the hil high agh grade streak and many beautiful specimens resulted from the first round of holes the ore is said to carry values of 1000 to a ton but definite information as to the extent of the deposit is not available big jim sinking sinking continues at the big jim and the shaft which is of three compartment size below the level will be continued from the to a depth of feet from where a crosscut will be driven to connect with the ven ve n much interest attaches to this work for the reason that horace V winchell one of the leading mining engineers of the country who examined and sampled the mine just before christmas stated in his report that the level should double the value of the mine the ore shoot on the and foot levels is feet long and averages twenty eight feet in width C W pope head of a large brokerage house in new york for whom mr Winch ells examination was made visited the mine recently accompanied by S M Warm bath general manager who has been in new york for some time grading is under way for the addition to the tom reed mill and some of the machinery has been shipped because deliveries are being made earlier than he anticipated superintendent raab now hopes to have the new unit ready for operation early in may alay the company continues development of the aztec a mile southeast of the mill with gratifying results ore will he be transported from the aztec shaft to the mill by auto truck until the material arrives for an aerial tramway strike in murdock lively interest was created during the week ek past by reports of a rich strike in the murdock which is located on the northerly extension of the black range vein system it developed that ore of high grade had been cut in the east drift on the foot level and assays essays of 40 to 50 a ton resulted from face samples for two days the drift then passed into low grade ore and again cut a few feet of high grade which gave way to low grade S R porter manager of the murdock who for several years had charge of the gold road mine during its most highly productive period is of the opinion that the drift merely cut what he describes as pinnacles of ore several mining men visited the property and pronounced the prospects exceedingly encouraging at the crescent superintendent pierce concluded that the vein cut in the tunnel three weeks ago is not the main crescent vein the crosscut therefore was continued and the face is now a mineralized andesite which is impregnated with hematite indicative of the nearness of a vein the adams crosscut on the fevel is still in country rock and as yet there is no indication of the proximity of the vein the nellie continues to dr ft in low grade ore on the foot level these mines are all in the black range section ore in amalgamated etienne A ritter a widely known mining engineer who spent three weeks here EL a E year ago is in camp accompanied by D A byrne of the oatman amalgamated mr byrne says that the east crosscut on the level of the amalgamated has cut a five foot vein of ore which assays essays from 2 to 30 a ton drifts are now being extended both ways on the vein mr ritter is highly pleased with developments since he left oatman and expresses the belief that it will make one of the great gold camps of the west the moss hugh rose consulting engineer for the santa gertrudis corporation ltd which is prospecting the old moss mine by means of a diamond drill visited the property this week A report is current that the first drill hole which was sunk to a depth of feet on an incline cut a vein of ore A W edelen who has charge of the work declined to comment on the report mr air edelen said that another hole has been started and that the company will continue the work outlined when the property was bonded irrespective of results the moss mine was located in 1864 by and scout who john moss a prospector according to well authenticated reports took out worth of rich ore from a hole ten feet square subsequently he spent most of this money in a vain endeavor ende av to find the extension of this rich deposit and other attempts have been made without results should the english company be successful another mine will be added to the list of oatman producers |
