Show IN TOOELE COUNTY by J H cooke M E dry canyon in 1916 due to the high prices of metals als had a very prosperous year the only drawback being the lack of transportation facilities situated ten 1 niles miles easterly from the town of stockton and at an altitude of about feet dry canyon famous in the early seventies not only for its extremely high grade ores but famous as well for its large tonnage probably sent more ore to the smelt eries teries this year than in any year since 1876 hidden treasure by far the heaviest producer in dry canyon the hidden treasure shipped in 1916 a larger tonnage than at any time in the last twenty five years under the capable management of D W lynch a large amount of lead silver as well as zinc and copper ores were mined and shipped to the various smelt eries new ore bodies were opened containing good deposits of a commercial grade about thirty men are employed continuously during the year on this property the big four exploration company the old queen of the hills mine as well as the dry canyon consolidated were operated in 1916 by the big four company A large amount of development work was done and considerable ore shipped wandering jew there was mined and shipped from the wandering jew fourcard four cars of lead ore work was done principally by leasers leaders lea sers kearsarge one of the mines that responded in 1916 in a very gratifying manner was the kearsarge A large amount of development work was done and a goodly amount of ore shipped other producing mines in dry canyon in 1916 were the utah queen thad stevens big lead and commodore shipments of high grade zinc carbonate ore run running jling as high as 45 per cent were mined from the old abandoned queen of the hills workings high grade shipments of lead as well as of copper ores were made the company at the present time is confining itself to exploration work in the dry canyon consolidated property and it is safe to predict should it find the body of ore which is being prospected for a new large producer will ivill be brought in in 1917 mono development company the mono development company in 1916 settled for eighteen lots of lead silver ore this was taken out principally by leasers leaders lea sers the company itself did some development work with the idea in view of picking up the rich silver body on the other side of the e fault work will be continued along this line in 1917 with favorable hopes of being successful the brooklyn shipments of a very desirable grade of ore were made from the brooklyn mine in the early part of the year these were made by leasers leaders lea sers it is the intention of the company to do considerable development work in 1917 I 1 |
