Show JAMES IVERS james ivers prominent mining man and capitalist died at his home east first south street in this city on the afternoon of december funeral services were held in st marys cathedral on the mr cur ives has been prominently identified with the iii mining ining industry of utah for the past thirty four years he was born in quebec canada in imay 1864 and was brought up on a farm there until seventeen years of age when the family moved to st johnsbury vermont here he learned blacksmithing and learned it well in 1872 he moved to concord new hampshire where lie he operated a blacksmith shop for five years coming west and to california in 1877 lie he worked at his trade in that state and in nevada doing some mining in the meantime until 1882 when he moved to park city utah where lie he later made his fortune he was blacksmith for a time at the daly mine there also engaging in ore hauling about that time lie he obtained an interest in the famous silver king mine which was the foundation of his fortune he lived in park city until 1898 in that year lie he was elected to the lower house of the state legislature and moved to salt lake he also practically retired from business at that time and made his home in this city until the time of his death he is survived by his wife and two children james ivers jr of salt lake and mrs james T finlan of butte montana there are also two brothers and two sisters all living in canada mr ivers had thousands of friends throughout the west and especially in utah the mining review extends sympathy to them and to the family in their hour of bereavement |
