district for the six months period ending june had a total value of nearly during the same period approximately tons of ore were milled the average per stamp per day for the sixty stamps in operation being about 7 tons of an average value of nearly 12 per ton from to tons of ore were mined but not milled owing to a lack of reduction facilities this lack is soon to be met in part at least by the erection of a mill at the united eastern mine and by the establishing of a mill for custom ores on the flat near the townsite of old trails during the month of june the bullion shipments from here had a total value of representing the gold extracted from tons of ore this tabulation applies solely to the ore mined and milled by the tom reed and pd gold road companies no portion of the tonnage of high grade milling ore per ton that is awaiting opportunity for treatment at the united eastern mine is included therein neither does it take into account the tonnage that is being piled on the mine dumps in all sections of the camp tom reed output the famous tom reed mine the premier gold producer of arizona outputted out putted during june about tons of ore from which worth of gold was reclaimed the average grade of this ore was a trifle more than 22 per ton prom from january 1st ast to july the mine output totaled about tons of an approximate total value of or a general average value of 20 per ton the mine output for the current year estimated upon this basis will have a total value of from january to july the company paid in dividends a total of 30 cents per share on the outstanding shares or a total of resignation of lunceford bert lunceford for nearly eight years assistant superintendent of the tom reed mine severed his connection with the property on july owing to the demands of his outside busi business f begs enterprises mr lunceford was formerly employed by the gold road company in a like capacity he joined the managerial staff of the tom reed company when colonel L P hansen of pasadena assumed control of the fallen fortunes of the blue ridge mining company and fashioned the timbers of its financial ruins into the present tom reed gold mines company affairs of the pittsburg co coin in pany in the same painstaking and efficient manner with which he placed the tom reed i company on its financial pins development 01 of the property is being carried on under 1 I I 1 the supervision of S R porter former sun erin of the gold road mine the e main working shaft has a depth of feet r and at that level drifts are being extended to the west in vein material that presents promise of making into a large body of I 1 I 1 ore As the drifts are extended the mineral indications grow more strongly fa J to the discovery of an ore shoot at il no distant date the mine is equipped with id a powerful plant of machinery and is considered one of the most valuable in the north end of the district dietric t the main shaft on the gold reed com banys estate located in the vicinity of the 1 pittsburg has a depth of feet and is in milling grade ore from collar to bottom sinking will be continued until a depth of 1 feet is gained at that level the vein will be crosscut to the north and a drift extended in it to the west in the upper levels of the gold cold reed a considerable tonnage I 1 of 43 ore has been mined this ore it is now on dump awaiting opportunity for reduction two tons of gold reed ore one a sulphide and the other an oxide are to be I 1 shipped to los angeles for experimental t purposes in connection with the custom mill i which E R holden plans to build here plant for big jim A 25 horsepower fairbanks morse hoist i has been purchased by the big jim gold mining company together with the necessary additional machinery tools etc for expediting development work pending its arrival the 15 horsepower hoist formerly in commission at the united western shaft will be utilized As soon as the latter is in place an additional shift of miners will be employed general manager sam warm bath returned to los angeles a few days ago after arranging for the development of the big jim property at depth he has decided to concentrate mining effort for the present on the group of claims adjoining the black eagle group of the toni tom reed company the mineral showing on this portion of the big jim estate is decidedly favorable to the discovery of pay ore at a comparatively nominal depth and at a comparatively nominal raining mining cost the group is traversed by a series of ledges that outcrop boldly and give satisfactory assay returns the belief is general here that these e ledges will make into pay ore at water level or above at this time the main shaft has a depth of forty feet the first crosscut will be driven to the te ore t the foot point below this level the re will be crosscut at foot intervals to S depth of feet where the entire vein system stem will be proved up and ore be blocked out t mazona promises well tile the streak of free gold ore opened in the e shaft of the mazona company at a depth of twenty feet is holding its values and is widening as depth is gained bannings Pann ings of uie tile vein material yield a good string of colors some of which are fairly coarse su taber is deepening the shaft as rapidly as is consistent with proper minting and plans to run his first crosscut at a depth of feet this cut however will I 1 be run more for the purpose of testing the vein and its values than with a view to extensive expensive development work As at present outlined the development plans contemplate a a depth of at least feet before entering upon a systematic effort to open and prove ithe the vein colorado capital represented by major tom mcclellan of los angeles formerly of denver is interested in the de of the mazona the southern california capital interested in the project is represented by james conlin and H C taber of los angeles plans are being formulated by the gold cliff exploration company to develop at depth its acre estate the greater por tion of which adjoins the property of the tom reed company stephen E barron managing director has a force of miners employed in testing at nominal depth a number of large and well mineralized ledges that cross the acreage As soon as this work is completed a site for a main working shaft will be selected and the campaign of devel be started the estate is located in the center of the ore producing area of the camp and is adjacent to property of proven worth such as the tom reed and the united eastern |
