Show THE SAN JUAN OIL FIELD ed W gilchrist of the san juan oil field san juan county utah who was in salt lake last week is very sanguine that this section will eventually develop into one of the leading oil producing portions of the west but is outspoken in the opinion that deep sinking will have to be resorted to before any big wells are brought in mr gilchrist owns and controls acres in the san juan field and has three drilling rigs in the field a no 28 star a no 3 star and a no 5 cyclone in commenting on the field at the mining review office he said the shallow sinking feature of the field is exploded and operators are now sinking deep wells which undoubtedly will result in disclosing big wells mr gilchrist st may go down into the canyon and start a well on the top of the honaker sand on the anticline four miles from the seep he has a well down to a depth of feet at feet he reached the sand which has been penetrated for fifty feet the sand is feet thick it being feet from the bottom of the sand to the top of the honaker the sand in his opinion has been impoverished by the seeps along the san juan canyon the same applies to the sands above the he sees no reason however why good sands should not exist below the honaker and here he believes the oil bearing strata will exist in original form with no loss from seeps or similar causes |
