Show WALL MILL AT ST STARLUS AkLUS A special to the daily tribune from bingham utah says after an expenditure for repair and new machinery of more than cornel colonel E A walls mill is so nearly completed that a short run was made today to test the machinery this was so satisfactory that the management is planning to make a trial run with ore in a few days this mill is not merely the property of colonel wall but it is his idea all the way through and reflects his method of handling porphyry ores instead of the rather inhospitable sign of keep out the visitor is greeted by the much more inviting sign of come in posted on the outside of the building when once inside some surprises are in store for the visitor instead of a huntington mill we find three sets of rollers of colonel walls own invention the oversize over size being screened as it passes through each set what is left after passing through the last set is carried to the first set again in endless chains so that there is no waste at all this prevents undue pulverization and solves the proposition of slimes to a large extent instead of the customary tables and van ners colonel wall has what he terms ore washers of his own invention these are about eighteen feet in length and covered within these curious oblong washers are installed valves and sprayers sp the sprayers sp continually throwing the lighter material of the ore in solution to the surface the waste being finally discharged through launders prepared for that purpose the concentrates are discharged from the bottom of the washers through pouches it is claimed for this method that there will be comparatively little loss in the handling of ores at any rate if it proves a after passing the experimental stage it will effect a revolution in the handling of porphyry ores and bring to life many of the smaller propositions that cannot now be handled at a profit the machinery is much more compact than in other mills requiring much less floor space located in a slight bend of the copper belt railroad it has been the target for runaway trains and engines for years past until battered battered and shattered it reminds one of an old fortress every time it has been wrecked it has been rebuilt each time with some new improvement reflecting the genius of the owner when the plant has passed the experimental stage and is fully equipped for a permanent run it will be used to handle the ores from the starless mine which is also colonel walls property these ores run from 3 to 10 per cent copper and there ther e is ore enough blocked out to last for years to come |
