Show THE NEW STOCK EXCHANGE Is there business enough centered in salt lake city to 0 o warrant the operation of two mining stock exchanges this question has been asked and answered many times and several attempts have been made to prove that there was room for two such institutions these attempts have all proved failures but under such conditions as to leave the argument unsettled believing that the time was ripe for the successful launching of a new exchange in this city the utah stock and mining exchange has been incorporated by a coterie of local talent and the enterprise started off in a manner which looks like business quarters have been secured in the center of the business section and all preparations made to perfect the organization there has been much dissatisfaction expressed regarding the salt lake mining exchange anda and a great deal of this criticism has been just the mistake has been made of considering the public of only secondary importance and allowing questionable transactions to take place on the board even members of the old exchange themselves condemn the management of affairs and yet there has been no determined move to better these conditions the public will undoubtedly be with the new organization provided it eliminates the evils of the old board but the most potent factor in the success of the venture will be its backing who are the men behind the proposition and aro are they in active operation cooperation co with it or merely allowing the use of their names it has been rumored that certain powerful factions have determined to keep the center of business where it now is and not allow the old exchange to draw the trade with it to its new location if such is the case there will be a merry war and the chances of victory seem to favor the new concern as the factions alluded to control a large part of the mining business of the state however the dear public has not been let in on the matter yet and all is merely conjecture we believe there is business for one good exchange but the standing of that one must be such as to kill all competition |
