Show PROTEST WILL BE MADE AGAINST LEAD, ZINC TARIFF- REDUCTIONS An oral protest to the state department against any reduction reduct-ion in the tariff on lead or zinc in the forthcoming British and Canadian reciprocal trade treaties is planned by congressmen congress-men of mining states. Briefs outlining opposition to the proposed reduction in tariff on load and zinc will be filed by the mining industry. After briefs are prepared the committee commit-tee selected to present the views of those interestd in zinc and lead futures in this country will appear before the state department de-partment in advance of the public pu-blic hearings. Assistant Secretary of State and his chief subordinates have been detailed to work up British and Canadian treaties. Representative Represe-ntative Abe Murdoch of Utah was authorized to select a committee com-mittee of congressmen from the interested group to work with representatives of the mining industry in-dustry In formulating their protest. pro-test. Legislation may be introduced in the future to amend the reciprocal re-ciprocal trade act to require ratification rati-fication of all reciprocal trade agreements or treaties by the United States senate before they shall become operative in the future. o |
