afternoon I noon was one of thorough enjoyment The main feature of the afternoon was wasa a lecture by the Rev Rey Mr Carver of or i Ogden n and this was supplemented by byo bya a o of great excellence excel excellence excellence I lence The Th e first number was a piano pian duet by Mrs Loomis and Mrs Rich Richardson RIchardson Richardson I ardson and it is 15 needless to say this wa wn much m ch enjoyed A finely rendered vocal duet by Mrs Ira H Lewis and I Miss Edna Dwyer followed and two solos los by Miss Dwyer D eJ later were espe especially I well done Miss Mary Olive Gray I gave two splendidly executed piano i numbers s and as the close of the pro gramme grame Mrs ra Lewis sang a dainty ballad I Mr Carver had chosen for his sub subject I ct Victor Hugo and His Work t and nd the lecture was listened to toI throughout with absorbing interest He I spoke e especially of ot the optimism of the great writer and characterized him as the great reat benefactor of the poorer an anthe and ani the criminal classes of Europe His love of humanity and his firm belief belle in ln the best in mans nature were all admirably shown and that with a aI force in the speaker which carried con conviction conViction to his hearers The intense I patriotism as shown in the literary works of at Hugo were treated in a mas masterly masterly masterly terly fashion The club has seldom i listened to a better lecture At the close of the an hour hopr or so was devoted to the social side sile of club life liCe and refreshments were served and conversation enjoyed Reviewers Club X L Last ast st Monday was presidents day in inthe inthe inthe the Reviewers club and a most de delightful delIghtful musical was nas ar arranged arranged arranged ranged by the president for the after afternoon noon Mrs Plummer gave a very en entertaining entertaining talk on Mendelssohn and she sh was assisted in rendering several Of f the arias and recitatives from the oratorios of St Paul and Elijah by Miss Edna Dwyer and Mr Copley A duet from Elijah by Mr Ir Copley Cope and Mrs Plummer was especially enjoyed Miss Kimball rendered a number of Songs Without Words and after a most pleasing D B C French W W Story and and showed some ex excellent excellent samples of their Miss Katherine Culmer gave a paper on Utah sculpture and she also showed some fine examples of the work done doney by
