wafting the coming of President Taft yesterday esterday afternoon At the depot a great concourse con concourse course of pf f people taxed the police and sol soldiery soldiery soldiery diery to their utmost to hold them off art the open space where the presidential train was to come in Excitement was at fever pitch Every whistle of a locomotive locomotive locomotive tive was taken to indicate the approach of the train long before it was due and loud demonstrations followed each such slight incentive When the special train bearing the governor and his staff and a number of prominent citizens citizen who went to Helper to meet Mr Taft pulled Into th tb the depot there was an overwhelming rush of people to the tracks and the police were powerless to keep them back Every frock coat and high hat that ap appeared appeared appeared on board the first train was greeted with cheers so great was the tense tenae expectancy Before the presidential train had whistled in the south yards the police pollee poll had again cleared the tracks and succeeded in establishing proper restriction restriction restriction tion lines Scene at the Station As the train rolled slowly into the depot depota a dressed in an identical manner manlier with j him One Touching Incident As the President entered the auto a lit tle tie old woman in black fairly wild with i I pleasurable excitement thrust aside a I others stopped in front of Colonel Scotts residence As Taft proceeded proceed d up from the depot the crowds fell in behind all aU the way making an irregular parade of pedestrian and vehicles stretched the entire length of Second South street on the west I Hundreds of ot school children were at the I depot when Taft came in By the score excited little urchins dodged between the I legs of
