0 HAMPTONS IS MISTAKEN There is an article entitled What Kight Eight Million Want in the current number of Hamptons aine and the author au r does at least le st one one thins thing by by his effort He lie proves he does not know k p his subject For example c here iKIe is Js an extract following a statement that in ht Colorado women have absolute political equality with the men and in ht Louisiana they have no rights Between these th two tO extremes ext s Colorado and Louisiana women owen have the other states state to choose None of them offer perfect equality Even in Idaho Wyoming and Utah the three th states be besides besides sides Colorado where women vote women are an in such a minority that their votes voles vot are powerless to remove all their disabilities Accompanying the article is a nice with the states marked to in indicate indicate indicate I the degree of liberty they accord women in the matter of citizen rights And there Utah is pictured as a place where here inequalities are slight but yet et where these inequalities exist where women have less citizenship privileges than have ba men And that is Js hardly borne out by the constitution of Utah The first section in Article Four reads as liS follows The rights of of the state of Utah to vote and hold office shall not b denied or abridged on account of sex Both male and female of this state shall enjoy equally all alt civil political political ical teal and religious rights and anel privileges Maybe the writer in Hamptons can draw a paragraph which would give something nearer equality but we dont know how it could be done in the Eng English lish lah language It makes very little di d of o course because the women Ol eh of Utah U ah have nave the rights in fact tact even if are deprived of them by a New York magazine Both in voting and in office holding holdine they have an absolute ab equality with men and we have a mighty ml good county clerk right here in Salt Lake and she is Js a woman Magazines that care cIe for their reputation reputation tation make corrections when they dis discover discover discover cover a mistake
