Show BOYS BEAT EAT B THEIR TH WAY Andrew M Davis of Salt Lake Caught in the Earthquake Andrew M 11 Davis son of Mrs Anna Da Davis Davis vis First street and his companion Joseph Burnett arrived yesterday esterday morn morning mornIng mornIng ing from San Francisco after being on the road for four days The boys beat their way over the Southern Pacific on freight trains and during the four days ate but one square meal They had but little money and had hard work getting over the road Davis said yesterday that the rooming house in which they were sleeping was in ruins and that they had a narrow es escape escape escape cape for their lives When the shock came their bed rolled across the floor They Jumped out and tried to get out into the hallway but the passage was blocked with timber and they were unable to get the door open They stayed in the room until the shock was over The two boys scrambled out of the wrecked building and sought a place of safety in the resi resl residence residence dence district They were unable to get out of San Francisco for two days das but finally got on a ferry fero boat and went to Oakland From there they made the first freight train they could get but did not arrive in Salt Lake until yesterday |
