witha a fair crowd and with a splendid show jn of the wealth of the state there was vas nothing to prevent the first real day of the fair fah from being in every way waya a success And it was a busy day for every one ne connected with the association association tion The judges especially were on the go from an early hour trying to figure out cut the premium takers from the large number numb r of as far from completed in the evening Super Supervisor Isor visor Palf reyman was everywhere pres present cut ent and deserves great credit for the success of his department In the Fruit Pruit Department Ir II the department of fruits there was wasa a striking lesson Jesson given in the matter of or drying fruits and Secretary Secreta Wright of the state board of horticulture took pleasure In calling attention to it It wa was t Ue te IP remarkable difference in the fruit dried in the old way and that dried by the new process described in bulletin No 1 recently r sent out by b the I 1 11 arr The two samples were put side sideby 1 b by side and anti made a most striking con contrast j And in this connection it may be b blaid said paid that the exhibitions of dried and ei i orated fruits at the Ule fair are un unusually unu usually u good and d show sho what ti s are ahead of the fruit men of the tat in this field The showing of dried peaches apricots and ami small fruits fruit Manufactures The judges In department I manu had a comparatively easy time of it from the fact that while there was wasa a fine display In this department there were not many of the displays that came into direct competition An ex cx exception exception to this was the displays of candy cand and the competition between McDonald and the Salt Lake Candy company was very spirited The display here too was of a very high order as to the quality of the goods and the artistic arrangement left nothing to be desired Cutler Brothers Broth rs had a fine display of Qt manufactured goods as had also the Z C
