Show ATHLETICS AT AGRICULTURAL JURAL COLLEGE NOW ON BIG BOOM Special to The Logan March 1 Yesterday in an enthusiastic meeting of ot the student body of ot the U A C fourteen As were awarded to football players of this season This number included the team of ot eleven men two substitutes and the manager Of these five Ie re received received the A for the second time the theother theother theother other nine were Initiated into the halls of ot athletic fame Brief speeches were maae made in the meeting by O 0 G Lloyd president of the tho Student Body association and by Ivan Egbert a member of the team Amid rousing cheers and applause the themen themen themen I men were compelled to strip off their coats and don their dare dara d n DIne sweat sweaters ers adorned with a white block black A AThe AThe AThe The men who won the letter are Manager Wrigley Dean Peterson Burns Crookston Vere Tere Martineau Earl Robinson John Paddock Fred Bros Brossard Brossard Brossard sard Jenkin Jones Ezra McCombs William Batt Heber Hancock Andrew Nelson Ivan Egbert and James Holden As nearly as one can forecast the prospects for tor football at tt t the U A C for next year are extremely good With the exception of ot McCombs every everyone one of the fourteen men expects to return and play football next year Manager Wrigley who was reelected has al already already already ready arranged a very excellent sched schedule schedule schedule ule of games including contests with three Montana schools the tho university the agricultural college and the Butte School of Mines He is also negotiating ing with some Colorado schools and with the University of utah otah Aggles Are Third The basketball season Just ended gives the U A C third place in the state league While this may sound discouraging tp to some it is by no means surprising nor unsatisfactory to those who are familiar with All 11 the facts concerning basketball in the various schools of the state Considering the disadvantages and handicaps the U UA UA UA A C team has done very creditable work Football is the major sport at atthe atthe atthe the A C and thus far it has proved II Impossible to get any work In basketball until the close of the foot football football football ball season This gives the basketball team only two weeks practice before the holidays which practically upsets results so that after New Years the coach and team mu mut t take a fresh frash start at the game Each year there therefore therefore therefore fore the team is from two to two and months later than other schools in beginning serious work The gymnasium at the college Is by byno byno byno no means suitable for basketball practise practise I tise Use in fact the coach and team have been obliged to rent the B Y college gymnasium one hour da dUy y for ferr three days a week Thus instead of ten hours genuine work a week on ideal floor space the team has been ob obliged obliged obliged liged to do with about three hours practice Furthermore the men on this years ears team are chiefly Ut previous ous otis experience in basketball two of them playing for the first time and no two of them having played on the same samo team this year I Against Veterans The two teams which won respectively respectively first and second place in the collegiate league are made of veteran players and allstar players picked from the various basketball bask teams throughout the state Some of the men have played on the same team three or four years Considering all these facts the A C was quite satisfied with third place Coach is very much delighted with the work done by the members of tho the team particularly with team teamwork teamwork teamwork work and says that the prospects for fora a successful basketball eam ream are ex excellent excellent All members of the present team expect to return |
