Show DOCTORS IN CONVENTION Provo Entertains Medical Society Convention Welcome Addresses by Prominent Citizens Provo Dec Dee 31 Doctors from Salt Lake Ogden and all over the southern part pirt of the state came to Provo yester yesterday yesterday ester esterday day for the Third Councilor District Med Medical MedIcal Medical ical Society ty convention They were wel welcomed welcomed corned at p m by President J T p Farrer of the Commercial club John E Booth Mayor J H II Frisby C F Decker and many other prominent citizens Dr Frederic Clift the president of the organization called the assembly to together together together gether at 2 p m in and delivered a ort address welcoming the medical meil me of the state to Provo Dr J S W Aird was called to give a report on the proceed proceedings ings lags of the Richfield convention and on the action of the Insurance companies He stated that all of the old oid line com corn companies companies had bad agreed to pay a fee of 1 4 for every examination made The reso resolution resolution resolution lution asking that city health officers I Ibe be paid the same salaries as city at attorneys attorneys attorneys was also discussed by Dr Aird The next subject brought up for dis discussion discussion discussion was The Fees of Physicians Dr Stewart of Mount Pleasant led ed the argument being followed by Drs Henry of Payson Pason Clari of Richfield and Slater of Provo Dr Clift also took an active part In the discussion All AU came to the conclusion that the doctors are the poor poorest poorest poorest est paid of any of the professions and at that the subject dropped for later dis disposal disposal The Hon J E Booth was called for forand forand forand and gave an entertaining address on The Lawyer and the Medical Man Referring to tc the doctors plea for higher salaries he said We are all like Oliver Twist Each puts out his little cup and asks for more Continuing his speech he paid the phy physicians physicians physicians many worthy compliments Dr Ed M H Conroy the mayor of Ogden was the next speaker and took as his subject the ethical side of The Doctor DoctorIn In Politics His Hla HI effort was applauded a number of times and many note noteworthy noteworthy noteworthy worthy phases of the doctors position In society were logically discussed He was followed by Dr Fred E Clark of the state board of health who read a paper on The Physician Is Worthy of His Hire He struck out boldly at the patent medicines and sounded the key keynote keynote keynote note for the organization of doctors throughout the land Higher r salaries and the doctors worthiness were also urged upon the convention At the close of the doctors paper an adjournment was taken aken until 8 p m in when the mem members members members bers met net at the Hotel Roberts for their annual banquet The doctors were ac accompanied companied by bv their wives and quite a I number of the t e town people also Joined d din din In the festivities which lasted for over oer overt t 5 i two hours Judge J J E Booth presided Many excellent toasts were given This morning the entire convention body met at the Knight block where rigs were waiting to take them to o the Mental Hospital where Governor Cut Cutler Cutler Cutler ler addressed them on Sanitation At noon they adjourned to the Brigham Young University where officers for the I coming year will be elected |
