Show I Ogden Now a Great Railroad Center I I I Never In the time history of western rail railroading railroading railroading has there been a year more prosperous than 1906 Each and every oer road has had more business than It could take care of Hundreds of orders for additional motive power and rolling stock have hae been placed with the manufacturers while many millions have ha YO been expended by b the various railroad corporations for of ot bettering their facilities to take care of ot the traffic Ogden is perhaps the best point west of Chi Chicago Chicago Chicago cago from which to study stud railroad conditions so far as it refers to trans transcontinental transcontinental I continental contine lines Nature hate has been I most generous to Ogden for it formed here the natural gateway to the tho four fourpoints j I points of or the compass Time and again efforts have been made to wrest the I railroad advantages from the place but butin butIn butin in each instance these efforts have served to bring out more prominently the superiority of the location of the Junction City eit With the building of the cutoff acro s tile Great Salt lake lakefront front from Ogden bythe by the Harriman system every ceo doubt as to t the continuation of or Ogden Ogdon as a a railroad center was wiped away awa Since that time the tho holdings of oC all the railroad corporations corporation entering the city have been increased and out outside outside outside side lines have planned to build in this direction This can best be illustrated by b the fact that the Harriman lines alone appropriated for im mm improvements in Ogden during the years 1906 1006 and 1007 1907 No Longer a Mere Junction Ogden has long since ceased to be a amere amere amere mere junction point The city has grown in size eize on a comparative basis with the railroad Interests and during the past few years many new and sub substantial substantial substantial industries have been added There are four tour of the large lines run running running running ning In itt and out of the place and still stilt another probably two more will be added during the thc next few fe years In addition to the amount of money mone ex cx expended by Harriman the Gould lines have also prepared to expend large sums here During the past two years they the have acquired many thousands of dollars worth of oC real estate upon which they purpose to erect large terminals It Is not unlikely that with the com coin completion completion of or the Western Pacific they will build north from Ogden to Portland Seattle arid and other coast cities of or the th northwest and thus tap much of the theS J J r rt S t territory that has been held as ex cx exclusive elusive by the Harriman interests Interest The Chicago Northwestern has its engineers in the field at the t time surveying su a line into Ogden n from the north Recent assertions are to the effect that this line will enter the through Ogden canyon the most iI canyon in the country countr Options on onland Jand land there are said to be held by these people and the route Is a most feasible one It is 19 also aiso said that the Burlington is headed in this direction from rom the east Aside from increasing their facilities the Harriman system has added con considerable considerable equipment during the time year just closed and a still greater list has hag ha been ordered for 1907 The Oregon Short Line has received during the th past year four switching engines and twelve consolidation freight locomotives tives They have haye added two baggage cars twenty passenger coaches and three postal cars to their passenger equipment All AU of or these are sixty feet fec t in Jim length modern and up to date Their freight equipment has been increased by the tho addition of two hundred drop bottom steel gondola cars each having fifty tons capacity This class of ears cars Is much desired for tor coal coat shipments To the motive power of or the Union Pacific there have been added during 1906 1106 six Pacific type passenger Income locomotives locomotives tives and eight of or the consolidation freight engines The Southern Pacific has received three that will please the citizens of Ogden the most is leg Ing of ot the viaduct across the freight yards y at street This matter has been before the people for or oi years and has been the source so of much unfavorable comment and contention on their part The railroad yards at this particular point are arC ar especially esp cl busy and in addition to the great danger of accidents the delay to street
