The committee of fifty appointed on Saturday at the meeting of prominent republicans in the Union League club, met to-night to arrange for calling a mass meeting toendorae President Hayes' administration adminis-tration and to bike measures on the recent action of the republican state committee at Rochester. The following follow-ing call was issued: Republicans and all others of the city of New York who approve of the administration of President Hayes in bis efiorts to promote permanent union and harmony in the whole country, and restore every branch ot civil service to its early etneieucy and purity, and who feel that the action of the late republican state convention has placed the republican party and people of the state in a position toward the president and his administration at once falee aiid injurious, are requested to meet in Cooper institute, Oct. 10th, at 8 p.m., for the purpose of declaring unabated laith and confidence in the integrity, ability and patriotism ol president Hayee; their sense of the wisdom and justice of the aims and purposes of hia administration, and their beher and joy that the country is beginning to realize and will soon reap a lull blessing bless-ing of domestic quiet and happy con cord in and between all states which universal lovo ot the Union and respect re-spect for the constitution, aa now established, are sure to produce; ot restored confidence and abundant labor in all departments of industry an J commerce, and of the sound and permanent prosperity which shall bring plenty and happiness to all the people. Judge Noah Davis predicted, and letters were read from many prominent promin-ent republioans, signifying their in- Curtis, Joseph H. Choate and General Dix were invited to address the mass meeting. |
