A Chico dispatch dis-patch saya ihe persons engaged in the late massacre of Chinese have been arrested two boys by the name ol Slaughter and three men, Staiubrook, Conway and Roberts. Conway was the first arrested on the chargo of sending threatening letters to citizens who were working up the cose, and through him the other names were obtained. Conway and the Slaughter boys wrote nearly ad tho letters. Two ether men, Ames and Wright, are also arrested on the charge of araon, presumably, in connection with the Chinese troubles, though the dispatch doea not aoatalo. Six of the arrested parties are reported to belong to the order of Caucasians. Later. In all twelve arrests have been mado, five (or the murder of Chinamen, the others (or complicity in various incendiarisms. Two of tlie parties charged with murder have mado lull and j sworn statements, which agree ; in alleging that the party first went ', to the cabin with the view of its i robbery, but before entering decided j to kill the Chinamen to make every- ! thing secure. The statements also , throw light upon a number of eases in which Chinese buildings and manufacturing man-ufacturing establishment employing Chinamen were burned. Several of the parties arrested are ascertained to belong to tbo labor union, but none are yet identified as Caucasians. A Obico correapondout expresses the opinion, from (acta thus far gathered, that a scheme exiited to desolate that part of the country, and that its ramificationa will bo found to exiat all over the state, wherever the labor union and order of Caucasians have secured a foothold. |
