Show Th9 Opara Last Night. Vincent Wallace's beautiful opera of r'Maritana" was produced last night j before a good house, and to judge by ; the enthusiasm o( the audience the success of rewarding the efforts of the artists proved beyond doubt that the opera company is ono of the best that has ever appeared in our theatre, consisting con-sisting as it does of firet class artiits, and a selected chorus and orchestra; in visiting our city we cm only think ol the great expense attending the management and therefore we wioh them every success. The MariUn of Mis. Ricliiugs-Bemard, Ricliiugs-Bemard, the favorite prima donna, was beyond all' question one grand display of lyric art: Htir rendering of "Scenes that are Brightest" was a wonderful display of refinement, and as the last note fell on the ear, the audience enthusiastically demanded a repetition whih wis graciously acceded ac-ceded to. Mr. Harry Galea proved himself a first-rate Don Ctejar, having a fiue . tenor voice of great compass, and a ! appearance. The other characters good were well sustained. The chorui and orchestra were well up to their work under the skillful baton of Mr. Peirre Bernard. We uuderotiind Mr. Harris is trying to negotiate the return of this cele- 1 b-ated troupe for Friday and Saturday 1 next, and if Le succeeds we shall haw a grand treat in listening to the beuu- ' tiful strains of the immortal Mozirt in the "Marriage of Figaro," and Verdi's Ver-di's "Trovotore," which will re given in their entirety. I This evening we thall have the i pleasure of listening to BtUfe's ever - popular work the "Bohemian Girl," and expect a crowded house. |
