Show THE LABOR MOVEMENTS. The workingmen are going into politics. In Ohio they bave already held a convention and nominated state officers, and it is probable that tho movement will be followed in other states. If it becomes general it wilt disconcert the old political par. ties, and give the workingmen the balance of power. If they can work together harmoniously and unitedly the government is within their grasp, though it is more than likely that be-i be-i fore long they will prefer to avail themselves of the machinery of one or the other of the partiea rather than attempt to organize a Dew party, which would involve immense labor and expense. When tbe eitent ol . the political power of the workingmen becomes evident tbe politicians will hasten to secure their support, and the great parties will frame their plat-lorms plat-lorms to catch the votes of this growing grow-ing povcr. It is evident that the real struggle between capital and labor iB just coming to the surface, and that its influence will be largely felt in the next congressional and presidential elections, unless the new congress shall determine upon such radical changes in the financial policy of the government as will tend to restore public confidence and set the wheels of industry, manufacturing and commerce iu motion. |
