Some of the excursionists remained iu Ogden last evening with the in- j tention of attending church to day, the leading Mormons being in the Junction city, at the Bpecial conference. confer-ence. The objective point of these quill I driving peoplo, was Tahoe Lake city, ; but it is possible that Borne of them will proceed to Lake Side bafore their roturn, the C. P. olficials having invited in-vited ihem to paas over the road and view the wonders, beauty, and graideur of .the Siirras. However, the Mormon people and Mormon coun try are the attractiona, and we trust-they trust-they will not be disappointed in their expectations. Wo learn by the Omaha Herald, that Governor Emery hai guaranteed them "pertect security" while here. Now they can sleep in peace and ramble about at leisure without fear of molestalion by that "terrible" organization the Nauvoo legion which has bo exercised hia excellency, the New York Herald corrc&poudeut, and tha Kansas ruffians ruf-fians during the laBt few week?. , By the way, unless some of 'our local sensationalists trot out a I tew platoons of "Mormons secretly! drilling," our Nebraska friends will j ; be led to the belief that somebody has 1 litd fearfully concerning the Mormon. uprising, and the fear which shivers I the Gentile residents of Utah. j The party will go to Lake Point today, and tomorrow theygooverj the Utah Southern. It is hoped that : they will visit American Fork canon, for no one baa Been the romantic , grandeur of the Wasatch until he goeB ' through that mountain gorge. There are many objec:a of interest which the Nebra&kana will necessarily be obliged to forego the pleasure of visiting, visit-ing, as it ia their desire and purpose to reach Omaha on Saturday, but the principal points and attractions in and adjacent to the city are to be "laken iu." Many of the excursionists being practical printers, they publish a neat litile daily on board the train, a press and a lout or two of type being carried car-ried for the purpose. Tnis little sheet is called the Quill-Driver, and it is perhaps the fastest newspaper on record, b.-ing printed at the rale of thirty miles an hour. We welcome these excursionists to Salt Lake, and while hoping that they will enjoy themselves to the fullest, we confidently entrust to them the task of truthfully representing repre-senting through their resDective journals the facts in regard to Utah ae they see them; aud if they will do so their truthful representations will be the meana of doing much good to a maliciously lied-ahout community. The excursionists are at the Walker house. |
