Show Theatre. - Mr. Gtorge Rignold attracted a larger audience to tLe Salt Lake theatre last evening, than is often seen in that place of amusement; aud it was a most appreciative company of ladies and gentlemen, thouch not boisterously enthusiastic. It was an audience that could enjoy witnessioc good dramatic acting. Mr. Rignold is not only one of the most talented, but one of the most pleasing actors on the American stage. He is attractive in appearance, and entertaining in style, and withal au actor true to the author and nature. There is nothing harsh or repulsive in his playing or make-up. The play was "Lady of Lyons," Mr. R. as Claude, and we believe those who witnessed the performance per-formance will bear us out in the assertion that the leading character in the piece has never been better performed per-formed at our theatre. On two occa sions Mr. U. was called before the curtain by the admiring audience. The support wbb fair, better than many expected to see. Under all the circumstances, we might say it waB good. Miss Colebrook has a right conception of Pauline, aud plays the character with feeling and truthfully, but it is too mild. The lady failed to exhibit tho force to fill the author's creation. However, this was the first time that Miss had appeared in the character, and we understand she had never seen it J performed. The lady was applauded on several occasions. Mr. Forater's Beauseant was a geod piece of acting. act-ing. Mr. MargetU played Colonel Damns and Mr. Graham Glavis. In the sprightly drama of "Black-eyed "Black-eyed Susan," Mr. Rignold was most happy, and showed more of his k;i;tioa ns a rnrrect actor. Inresponso to a very general desire to see him in his urjt imporsDuttion of "Henry V," Mr. Rignold has consented lo postpone his journey to ' New York until Tuesday, and ap- pear as the youthful monarch on ' Monday evening. This is the part iu which Mr. R. won the heart! of the ladies and tho admiration of the men in Now York, San Francisco, and indeed all over the country. He has already played it over S00 times, and it is spoken of every where as a perfect performance. The piece is cast lo the full strength of the Salt Lake company. |
