Show StVi;ral congregational ministers met recently to discuss the tramp subject. It was maintained by all the speakers that tramps muet be taken care of; that it is the duty of society to relieve them, and above all that it is a Christian duty to minister to the necessitisa of the aunVriug. The tramp, however, should be compelled to give a certain amount ol labor aa returu for the relief offered. The city government waa recommended to provide pro-vide some means something like the "poor farms" of New J'.ngUnd where these men may work, and work hard for the assistance they re . ceive. The opinion waa generally expressed that the city government should not provide for this class without with-out exacting work from the applicant, unitss too infirm, in some way or other. |
