Show The Lick Estate. Sun Francisco, 8. The Chicngo settlement of the Lick trust has de vloped a new phase of difficulty. At a meeting ot the society of California Cali-fornia Pioneers last evening a resolution resolu-tion Adopted by the directors was read, to the efloct that Iho board would consent to the payment of 385,000 to John H. Lick, iu addition to the sum given to him by tho late James Lick, provided that all the societies sharing the bounty of tne decoased philanthropist should bear their proportion of the expense. These other societies had been led to believe that the $385,000 was lo come out of the residua set apart to be divided equally between the Academy of Sciences nnd the Pioneers and had filed their answers, , consenting to tbe payment on that hypothesis. The trustees of the Lick estate expected the two residuary resid-uary legatees to accept that idea and to come to-day into court so tbat the whole matter could be closed up. Both residuary legatee sociBtiea however, how-ever, now refuse to consent that all the money required for the settlement settle-ment Bhould come out of their pursea exclusively. Whether the other societies will now consent to pay the deduction of 14 per cent., that is the amount needed of the specific bequests given to them, is the question ques-tion to be settled hereafter. There may be trouble aud some litigation in settling the estate yet. |
