A dispatch from Constantinople, dated U o'clock this morning, says that the ministers were assembled in council last night at the residence of Midiiat Pasha, president of the council, when an oflicer who had been recently dismissed Irom the service entered the council chamber armed with a revolver, and shot and instantly killed Hussien Arin Pasha, minister of foreign affairs, and seriously serious-ly wounded Raschid Pasha, minister of marine. Ho also killed an aide-de-camp of the grand vizier and a servant ol Midhat Pasjia. Tbe assassin was arrested. The motive of the crime is supposed to be revenge for bis dismissal. Tbe assassin called upon the war minister, when be was informed that tbe minister was attending a council at the prime minister's residence. He proceeded there, and the guards believing be-lieving him to be an aide de camp, permitted him to euter. Hassan tired point blank at Huasien Arin Pasha, minister of war, with a revolver, re-volver, and while tbe other persons present were pressing forward to seize the assassin, Rachid Pasha, minister of foreign affairs, a servant of Midhat : Paeha named Ahmed Agha, aud a soldier were killed, aud Kaiserti Pasha, minister of marine, and another an-other soldier were wounded. THE OFFICIAL REPORT. The following is the official account of the assassination here this morning morn-ing : A Circassian named Hassan, who left the militiry school four years' ago with the rank of lieutenant 1 and was appointed to a captaincy in 1 the army of Bagdad, for certain reasons rea-sons was retained at Constantinople, where he was variously employed. When Hassan recently received an appointment to the grade of adjutant major, 'and an assignment to duty with the army of Bagdad, he alleged various pretexts for remaining at Constantinople, Con-stantinople, aud was consequently arrested and imprisoned. He was released re-leased yesterday on condition of his proceeding to Bagdad to-day. |
